Mann High senior Blakely Mattern has been selected the Gatorade 2005-06 South Carolina girls soccer player of the year.

Mattern, a center midfielder, has been the top scorer in Class AAA each of the past two seasons, with 36 goals and 15 assists in 2004 and 39 goals and 14 assists in 2005. The Patriotscm EQ MVP the last two seasons, Mattern also was a Class AAA all-state selection and a member of scsoccer.coms Super 18.

Mattern, who has a 4.85 grade-point average and is vice president of the National Honor Society, has signed to continue her career at the University of South Carolina.
