Can a coach make any practices "mandatory" before Jan 16 or Jan 23....whatever the official start date was?

>> [Le Debile de Anderson] I believe that question is up the the Athletic Department. If it were not mandatory, then no one would show up until the first day of practice. Spring football would be a joke as well.<<

Just as an FYI. At our local high school (4A), the training was not mandatory and a ton of girls still showed up. That's probably the exception that proves the rule.

Canine, I think you make a good point. The girls know that if they want to make the team-come to the preseason stuff. Slack off and you get cut come tryouts. I doubt there is a uniform code across the state.

I'm glad no rules were broken, and looking at what you did prior to the tryouts is very impressive. Mores schools should try and take a similar approach to their "conditioning" sessions prior to the tryouts instead of just running. It will be interesting to see how HHHS season goes this year for sure.

I like how Lexington did it. Get in shape in January work on ball controll against West Ashley and Wando.

Conditioning is one thing, but having your entire varsity squad at a mandatory ball skills session is another. What did the coaches do, train three while the other 16 or so sit and watch?

That is a bit confusing. I only ask because I may use in the future. What about the "if you don't go to a coach's session, go to a seniors"? As well, what about the "pick-up game" on Sundays and then the "day of rest".

It probably is a highly organized system that looks a bit queer to the outside eye.
