If you have two coaches present, is that six kids you can work with? If not then what if they are on seperate fields-can you have six then?

I'm just rolling this around in my head trying to see how it works.

I like the "dont break the rule just bend them" mentality. But if the caoch thinks that is what is needed to get the edge then....

LDA, my thoughts exactly....If you have a large staff such as Wando or Irmo, can you put 3 players with each coach and let them work? Do you rotate 3 every so often? I guess the rule was followed, maybe not the "spirit", but the rule.

so let me get this straight, you assigned only three returning varsity players a particular technical training day? Or did you randomly select three players out of the ones who show up for conditioning?

Not yet.

Coach, I applaud your commitment to the HHHS girls program...we need more coaches who know what they are doing to provide more training and conditioning for the girls. Your intent is good.

Please don't think that the coaches of any of the other Top 15 teams in the state aren't as committed as you are. They all invest tons of time which probably reduces their hourly pay rate to somewhere around $0.37/hour. All of these Top 15 coaches (and some others) would like to be on the field 24/7 with their teams. The fact is....the state rules prohibit this.

I'm not accusing you of doing anything wrong, except for perhaps a poor choice of wording on your website.

You answer me above that the skill sessions were not mandatory, the conditioning sessions were (at least that's how I interpret it). NOTHING can be mandatory prior to the first official date of tryouts. The word "mandatory" should not appear on your website.

Secondly, you have used the website to organize and endorse scrimmage games. State rules prohibit you from doing this......it has to come from the kids. The players have to organize and promote this activity, the coach can't.

I'm not looking to bust your chops....I just want to make sure that the rules are being interpreted correctly. Again, everyone wants to get a leg up by starting early....and all of the competitive teams are doing something prior to the official start date. You just have to watch what you are doing and how you promote it.

I look forward to seeing your team play this weekend, I'm sure you are going to have a successful season.

Good luck.

BJonesHHHS -- not so fast my friend. Check this page out from the SCHSL Rules and Regulations Handbook for what can be done in closed seasons. Seems to me that if training was being done, then it would be illegal on school grounds or feeder school.

OUT-OF-SEASON
Strength and conditioning programs will not be affected by the limitation on practice seasons. Conditioning
programs are not to include agility drills that enhance specific skills for a given sport, nor may equipment for any
sport be used. Agility drills appropriate for all sports will be acceptable.
Practice and weight training must be open to all students. These sessions cannot be mandatory for any student.
Any student participating in an illegal practice will be declared ineligible for that sport season. Any school allowing
an illegal practice will be subject to League discipline to include the placing of the sport on probation.

This also comes from the SCHSL......another chapter begins.

*All sessions from January 2nd through January 20th are mandatory for all those interested in trying out for the Women’s Varsity Team.(per HHHS womens soccer athletic page)

Seems "mandatory" does make it all illegal!
