Looks like I'm the first to post.
Spartanburg 1 1 2 T.L. Hanna 2 1 3
Anderson, SC - The Lady Jackets were fortunate to catch Spartanburg tonight on a night in which they were not at full strength. With #7 up top to run the show, things quite possibly would have been different...but thankfully for the home team they were not.
The Vikings (hide your children) opened up the first half with a low line drive that buzzed past the hands of All-Region GK Kelli Whitfield. Moments later the Lady Jackets responded when Caitlin Robinson received the ball on a diagonal down the left side and slid the ball to the right of the net. Physical, but clean play resumed and the ball stayed in the midfield for most of the afternoon/night. Midway through the 1st half, a cross was sent (Molly Harpe?) into the 18 to Junior Taylor Craft who lifted the ball up and over the GK for a goal. Whitfield held strong in the back and the Jackets got a scare when a goal was scored, but then negated by the linesman (Thank you Jack for 3 officials!). More furious play continued and the half ended with Spartanburg leading the shots 10-9.
The 2nd half resumed with the Vikings controlling much of the midfield and T.L. Hanna holding on with desperate clears. Robinson again found the net, though, as she and the GK collided while her shot went through. Spartanburg resumed their assault in the 2nd half and found the net via an impressive blast from the right corner of the box. Hatcher, Holahan, Anderson, and Martin scrapped in the middle for the remainder of the half, while Casey Craft, Davis, Witcher, and Wentsky weathered the storm in front of 2nd half Keeper Maxwell (forgive the shameless plugs). Spartanburg just missed sending the game into OT as they kept hitting shot after shot.
Coach McGinty has had some injuries and catastrophes this year that you would not wish on your worst enemy, but has managed to field an impressive squad despite circumstances. I'm not sure Hanna's staff would be able to hold up as well in the same situation. Good group of girls, good coach over there in Spartanburg.
P.S. Next up for T.L. Hanna: #15 Northwestern. Despite the higher ranking, T.L. Hanna remains the underdog. Don't believe me? Its hard to beat a team three times in a row...especially when that team has been hanging with the biggest and baddest of 4A. I know Cantona will disagree, but playing Mauldin, Dorman, and Fort Mill x 2 is more impressive than Laurens, Pendleton, and Dorman.

You were right, it was Molly Harpe that crossed that second goal in to Taylor. Congratulations on the win and being the first coach to rush home and post such a fine summary of the game.

Lexington 15 Gaffney 0
With a squad like the Wildcats have, even substituting early and a "cross only" rule cannot keep the score lower. Well, that and Gaffney isn't exactly a soccer power. Feelings in L-town are much better than this time last year! Best of luck and I hope you go all the way!

Aiken 9 Lancaster 0
Aiken's Ellie Victor had her first hat trick of her high school career tonight: scoring 2 of those from long range. Audrey Timmerman scored two (one on a penalty kick & the other from a bomb about 30 yds out) & sent a third corner in that was recorded as an own goal. Amber Chase scored 2 (one off the thigh & one off the shoulder). The final goal was a penalty kick by Meredith Few. Everyone on Aiken played brilliantly tonight and the balls were falling our way. One of the best first round games that I can ever remember here at Aiken. Total team effort--all 19 players were on.

Very good match. Very physical. HH scored on an outside shot over the keeper about halfway through the second half, then iced it on a header off a corner with about 3 to play. WA played a very tough match.

The James Island vs Fort D score was 8 - 4, I think. First half score 6-1. The Lady Trojans played a great game on a beautiful field. On to Irmo Wednesday.

Good showing by SA in the FM game. I have to admit I expected a much higher score by FM against them.
What was your take on that game Hurst?
Good job SA!!

Congrats to the Lady Jackets for making it to second round. It sounds like you've got your work cut out for you playing a NW team that has played some of the best teams in the state to one goal games. But like their school mascot, Radio, the Lady Jackets can prevail. One game at a time. North Western may be bigger than you and played in a more competitive region, but they put their soccer shorts on one leg at a time... Go Jackets!!!

I don't think they brought up a lot of JV players, but all the younger girls on their roster got the chance to play. Maybe 3 or 4 jv's. Good experience for the younger jackets.

Officially, doing it the hard way means playing every playoff game on the road, winning them all in close fashion, then working back from a 3-1 deficit in the state championship to win against an overwhelmingly favored team in overtime. These exact circumstances will probably never be repeated, and had to do with the high level of competition last year in R7 and WA's third seed position therein.
But, JI has a difficult row to hoe. They are a young team constucted around a core of 10th graders who did not play varsity last year (or played very little). They will be facing Irmo in Irmo after Irmo dispatched Conway 452 - 0 in the first round. The JI Lady Trojans are a player or two lighter on the bench than most coaches would want and have more than their share of walking wounded on the field at any point in time. Still, the first half of tonight's game showed a very high level of soccer, so we'll see... Go Trojans!!!

laplageauxfolles, i didnt attend the game, but I am interested in what you mean by "first half of tonights game". what happened during the second half? i also heard rumors of someone on JI receiving a red card. if this is true, how is it going to affect the next game?

Dorman 7 Westside 0
Congratulations to the Dorman Lady Cavaliers for a classy victory over the Westside Lady Rams in first round class AAAA action. From the baby blue game programs complete with starting line-ups and team records to the PA announcer's mention of this being Westside's first ever foray into the postseason to the play by play announcing, the show put on by the Cavs was a model of professionalism.
Dorman flustered an overmatched Westside squad from the opening whistle, controlling the majority of play and using their speed on the flanks and highly opportunistic play at forward to keep high pressure on the Rams all night. Westside's few trips into the Lady Cavs defensive third were met by effective and organized resistance.
Thanks to Coach Josef Lorenz, his players, and his coaching staff for going the extra mile and creating a playoff experience that this coach and his Westside girls will remember. Truly a quality squad, best of luck in the second round and beyond!

Congrats to the following:
Blythewood on their win. Good job. You guys had a tough road this year being a first year program.
Airport---Way to go! Tough game but you guys seem to be pulling out alot of those.
TL Hanna---Hard fighting all the way. I guess those kareoke sessions on the bus pay off!
And to all those that won their first round game on the road. It's tough going into enemy territory and winning.

OK.....here's the Rock Hill Herald's version. (Please let me know if this link doesn't work and I'll copy the article over if necessary). http://www.buzzfans.com/sports/high/fort_mill/story/5708434p-5113057c.htmlHere's my take. Fort Mill 3, South Aiken 0. Kudos to Coach Zameer Sheihk and the South Aiken ladies, they played very well. The Lady T-Breds only brought 13 players and half of them were freshmen. I know Aiken has a strong U-14G team (Heat) and a very strong U-12G team (Fireballs). If these girls are feeding into South Aiken HS, their program is in good shape. The Lady T-Breds battled hard for 80 minutes and in the last 15 minutes, when the Fort Mill coach went to his bench, South Aiken evened the play and actually scraped the post. Best of luck to SA next year, you represented your school and your region very well. As for the Lady Jackets, they got the job done once again. Cathryn Wilson was the hero, scoring two goals on headers (the first was a beauty) and setting up Chelsea Peterson for the third. The 3-0 halftime score stood up through the final whistle. The Lady Jackets were steady on defense, but less than crisp on offense. I like to give some of the credit to SA, I feel they were one of the stronger fourth seeds in the tournament (at least they played like it last night). FM gets the winner of Byrnes - Wren....I haven't even seen that result yet.

The "first half of tonight's game" refers to the time between the opening kick and the break for half time (roughly 40 minutes). JI, in my opinion, wasn't as aggressive to the ball in the second half. One of the JI forwards received a red card away from play late in the second half. Unfortunate timing.

Fort Mill struggles to knock in three, Mauldin only knocks in one.
Lexington puts up to two touchdowns and a couple of conversions (LF, deahler, Lex....did you really have to go for "2" after that second touchdown?!?!)

Hurst66: From what I saw and remember, the coach put in subs after 10-20 minutes, put in subs for subs after 30 minutes, instituted a crossing only rule after 40 minutes, and possession only after 50-60 minutes.

Chico,
You guys are awsome! Dorman, FM and Mauldin are scared to death. Couple that offensive outburst with another shutout and........
guess what?......you're the team to beat. A well-oiled machine obviously peaking at the right time of year.

I doubt the incredible, mature, accomplished, successful teams of Mauldin, Fort Mill, or Dorman lose any sleep over Lexington. On the other hand, Lexington's draw through the upstate is straight from hell. Or to put this in the phrasing you so much admire : Lexington continues to be young. I only posted the above because I wanted to make it clear that the coach took multiple steps to reign in the scoring. Gaffney played with a lot of heart (their #9 in particular really worked hard throughout the game).

Lets not get too carried away here just yet guys. Chico said it best. We did all we could to not try and run up that score. Problem is subs like to score as well when given a chance and thats understandable. I doubt any of the teams listed above are "scared to death". We had an easy draw for the first round, but that's over now. Nothing but the best teams in the upperstate left to play now so I don't really care about that shutout stuff anymore. Just a "W" will be fine and for sure hard to come by. #9 for Gaffney for sure stood out and never quit, great player. Tomorrow will be a WAR.... hope we are up to the "pressure"

LF...Gaffney is a scrappy team and #9 plays her heart out, all the Lady Indians do.
Fort Mill beat them 4-0 and 8-0, nothing close to the 15 Lex hung on them.
You and Chico said it best...you are young, you are deep.....you are hungry!

All those games with the top AAA schools may have toughened Wren up for the playoffs. Should Dorman be worried?

My German has a thick Bavarian dialect so I'll make it simple for you OE because your google translator won't pick it up. When it comes to Dorman, we're all road apples.

Okay, maybe Dorman isn't worried since they wouldn't get Wren until the upstate final. I meant to say FM. Should FM be worried?

Early reports had Mauldin barely getting by Greenwood 1-0. Scoreboard shows 5-0, which sounds more likely. Can anyone confirm which score is accurate? I tend to suspect the 5-0.

I've heard multiple 1-0's.
As long as FM can score in regulation, they should be fine. If they hit OT, goodnight sweetheart...

lf writes quote: Good showing by SA in the FM game. I have to admit I expected a much higher score by FM against them.

I hope we get a chance to see. It looks like Mauldin has a bit of gamesmanship going on here. Looks like they actually won 5-0 but don't want to let that out. I hear it was even reported in the State Paper as 1-0 but here at scsoccer.com they are showing it 5-0 which makes more sense. In any event we'll all see in a few hours who's who. Hopefully it will be a good game. I expect a physical match from Mauldin. I agree, SA was coming on strong at the end. We saw that in the second game between Lex and SA

To stop Lex, you have to score against Lex. To stop Lex, you have to outscore Lex. Neither can be done!

Mauldin played Greenwood last Thursday, 4/27 and defeated them 5-0. The game was reported to the Greenville News but not to scsoccer.
Mauldin defeated Greenwood 1-0 on Monday.
I had email contact with the Greenwood coach after each match due to the assumption that Westside would face Mauldin in the first round rather than Dorman. The playoff score is correct, 1-0. But the 5-0 match should also be added on 4/27 to scsoccer's scoreboard.

Does anybody know the J.L. Mann vs Union score from Monday night? It is obvious they won from the fact that they are in the second round, but I can't find a score.
