I don't know if anyone else looked at "The State" paper this morning but I did. If you were lucky enough to miss this I will ruin your day by recreating it.

It is basically a comparison between Soccer and Golf as to which sport is most boring. I'll just put the soccer side.
Faceoff: The Battle of Dullsville
Category: Soccer
Scoring: One shot on goal every 25 minutes: I Love This Game!
Distractions:Easily distracted from game by choral singing in the stands.
Toughness:Extra "injury" time added to clock in hopes that someone might actually score.
Wimps:Wussy players roll on the ground in fits of pain after a light tap on the upper thigh.
Advice:What the sport really needs: land mines.
Suspense:Gee, how will ESPN work commercials into a sport with no timeouts?
TV:Announcer shouts "Gooooooooooal" so you realize something happened.
Predictable: Multiply your sleep deprivation fun: Stay up till 5 a.m. to watch another 0-0 tie.
Yawning:You can't touch the ball with your hands--which leaves them free to stifle yawns.
Colors:Where else can you learn Senegal's colors are red, yellow, and green?
Drama:Pent up energy from watching adults run around in no direction causes fans to riot.
Inspiration:You never heard Ronald Reagan tell the boys to "win one for Ronaldo."
Attire:Soccer min in shorts! Who cares if their names are unpronouncable?!

I'm sad to say that we can't give all the credit for this wonderful column to "The State" because its actually from the Chicago Tribune (this is probably because no one at "The State" even knew that you can tie in soccer or that there was even a World Cup) (of course i'm exaggerating but you get my point).
Now whats really wrong here? Everyone already knows that there is basically no support for soccer in SC. But what is really wrong is that with the new found success of the U.S. team and the new hype about soccer, though it may not seem that important it is. And now that there is all this hype "The State" takes an article from the Tribune basically to fill up space and entertain all the rednecks out there that are to stupid to understand the game.

I'm not saying "Protest The State" or anything like that. I'm just remember that they (The State) don't care about soccer. Moreover they don't even care about South Carolina. "The State" is owned by the printers of the newspaper in Charlotte (I think its "The Observer") so just remember "The State" just wants to sell papers not provide unbiased or unselfish news.

Maybe its just me but this article really ****ed me off and I felt I needed to know i'm not alone so if anyone else has some thoughts on this or information that I don't know about that would/could change my opinion i'd love to hear it.

most of todays older people(40 and up) grew up playin baseball and football. baseball is thought on a manly mans sport while some question whether soccer is a sport. soccer could arguably be the roughest sport of all. u have to be in peak physical condition to play too. while in football players are subbed in and out every play.

Hmmm, well my guess is clear.People that havent played the sport them selves is who's makeing the polls between golf and soccer.Mostly old people is what populated the poll, simply because theres ALOT of old people in South Carolina. If you ask me, i believe old people are more prong to play golf than soccer simply because golf is at there pace.Soccer is a sport that you have to make score at a fast pace.If your a slag team, then the goals are gonna be shot at "once or twice every 25 minutes". To the State paper:whats games are you guys watching?? Maybe your 2 year old kids soccer game?<==LOL.. Soccer can be an extreme sport "if" you have the people with the intensity..And to the poll: Dont make dumb accusations that stick strictly to your own opinion..

P.S. The world cup is watched by more veiwers than the golf opens throughtout the whole world, and i know that people doesnt watch soccer bcause it more boring than golf,The polls to me is simply a load of crap.. [Mad]

Really the only other two sports that even compare with soccer is football and basketball. Baseball has to be one of the most boring sports. Besides getting to swing a piece of metal or wood as hard as you can for 4 or maybe more times a game it is pretty boring. If you like golf better than soccer than you really are a wussy. Most athletes in other sports cant do a lot that soccer players can. I bet that they couldn't run for 90+ minutes like they do(unless your on the track team or something). Another thing is...soccer is about the only sport that is played worldwide. Baseball, football, golf, or basketball cannot say this.

Dude..about the soccer being played world wide. Let me tell you something. I was watching the NFL Europe "World Bowl" the other day because I don't have cable and I'll watch any sports I can. So anyways it was like the Rhein Fire against the Berlin Thunder. And this dumb ass announcer was like "The Fans here in Germany really support this team. They have embraced this "American" game and it even rivals soccer with the support it receives." There are a few things messed up with this statement.
1. The fans in Germany probably couldn't care less about "Football"..the American version that is.
2. The only fans that were at that game were the ones that couldn't get to the World Cup.
3. American football is hardly "American" ...its pretty much a rip off of Rugby.
4. There is no way on Earth or any other planet that American Football rivals Futbol in any country that has a national team other than the US.

Basically this guy was full of it, and himself. The guy also made fun of the low score and the US's defeat. What a jerk.

L-E Guy- I know it makes you angry, and it makes me angry too, but I kind of just shrug and say, figures. Although, if it makes you that mad, you should write an editorial to the state saying basically what you said on this website. I know this suggestion is over a week late, but it couldn't hurt.
