StudentSports, Inc. FAB 50 Rankings

Irmo, which boasts the #1 ranking in Class 4A with an unblemished 13-0 record, is rated #6 nationally by StudentSports.com. The Yellow Jackets have outscored their opponents 54-5 and have tallied nine shutouts. Coach Phil Savitz notched career win #399 last night in a 6-0 win over 4A #14 South Aiken (8-4) in Columbia.

P.M. Dorman (11-1-1), which dropped a 4-1 decision to Irmo in the opening match of The Days Inn-Microtel Invitational on February 22 in Duncan, SC, has since reeled off a 12-game unbeaten streak as the Cavaliers head into the Palmetto Cup hosted by Brookland-Cayce HS Thursday-Saturday. Coach Carlos Osorio's squad is ranked #2 in Class 4A and are the reigning champions -- having defeated Irmo (3-2) in the Upper State title game a year ago and #4 Ridge View (1-0) in the State Championship. The Cavaliers will face 1A #1 Christ Church, 2A #1 Bishop England, and 4A #6 James Island in the Palmetto Cup.

Bishop England (10-1) and Chapin (10-0) are rated #10 and #13, respectively in the Southeast Poll AL-GA-SC-TN), while Irmo checks in at #3 and P.M. Dorman at #7.

Norman North (2-1) of OK, who also will be participating in the Palmetto Cup is ranked #24 nationally and #6 in the Southwest Poll (AR-NE-OK). The Timberwolves hope to have Gatorade State Player of the Year Chris Hyde healthy for his 2002 debut.

Go Bishop England! As well as the other 3 esp. Irmo and Dorman. BE will see Dorman in the Brookland Cayce tournament this weekend as well as another top 25 team, Norman North; so these should be great matches. Good luck to all SC teams this season.

Good Luck BE in the BC tourny!

Shoutouts to my boys: #9 Lawrence Smith, #10 Mark Frey, #11 Tommy Kandl, and #18 Michael Ricciardone

I just got back from B-C and watching Norman North (OK) go through a practice.

Their top player, Chris Hyde -- Oklahoma Gatorade State Player of the Year, missed the team bus from their hotel and did not practice. He'll have to sit out the Bishop England match tomorrow, because he picked up a red card two games ago and missed the national and arch-rival match with Norman HS on Tuesday (Norman North won 2-1). He has signed with NCAA Division I Southwest Missouri State and will be back in action on Friday against host Brookland-Cayce.

The Timberwolves won the Class 5A State Championship two years ago when they appeared in the Palmetto Cup and were semifinalists in 1999 and 2001. Coach Bryan Young has guided the five-year old school to a 65-4 (.942) record at Norman North.

He hopes to alternate Norman North's appearances during the spring to the Parkview Tournament in Atlanta and the Palmetto Cup!

***Also, 2000 Palmetto Cup Most Valuable Player Patrick Tanner, who also picked up Southern Conference Player of the Year honors later that fall at Furman University, transferred this past Christmas Break to the University of Washington -- an NCAA power in the West.

***Atlee HS of Mechanicsville, VA (northeast of Richmond) will work out at The Cage tomorrow morning. The Raiders are ranked #1 in the City of Richmond poll by The Times-Dispatch newspaper.
