I'm interested in how many would like to see JV matches be extended from 30 minute halves to 40 minute halves. I just think 60 minutes is too short for a JV game. I also think that matches that end in ties should simply end in ties -- thus, no overtime and no penalty kick shootouts for JV games.

I'd also like to see Varsity teams lengthen their matches to 45 minute halves with ties being in effect after overtime (two fives).

Weigh in below!

60 minutes is too often TOO LONG for JV matches. A few JV teams can handle 40, but most are doing good to do 'good' 30 minute halves. Don't really care too much about varsity adding 5.

The other post is why JV should stay at 30. Why make a team like Wando play 40 minute halves? Or more accurately, why make Wando's opponents play 40 minute halves?

I think the JV games should be extended to 40 minutes halves as well. I know from a playing standpoint, we want to play more. 30 minute halves is way too short!

JV matches should be at least 40 minutes long per half. If a JV program is run as a training program for varsity, then the 40 minute halves gives a coach more time to be able to play more players. Most JV programs are made up of 9th and 10th grade players, these players play at least 40 minute halves in club at this age. Ties at both levels would be great. Playing your heart out for sometimes 90 minutes then losing because of PK's is tough.
It would be nice for both JV and Varsity to play 45 minute halves. NO OT and ties.

Why 30 or 40? Why not 35 minute halves for JV? I think 40 is too long and the level of play would suffer (more than it already does) towards the end of the half and definitely the game because of the fitness level of the young players.

I like OT but i see no need for PKs in regular season games. A game that finishes regulation tied should go to two 5 minuite golden goal periods. After that, end the game in a tie.

I think at the varsity level, play two 10 minute golden goal periods then end in a tie. For that matter, in the playoffs, continue to play 10 minute golden goal periods until someone wins. While as a coach, I do not like deciding games on PKs, as a GK i loved it b/c iwas the one in the spotlight.

In the Beaufort, Bluffton, Hilton Head area the JV matches are 35 minute halves. Some teams are surprised when they come down and have to play these match lenghts. The High School Federation rules state that Junior High matches are to be 30 minutes. I don't have the book in front of me so I can't quote the exact rule.

Matches should be 35 minutes. There should be no PKs ever in soccer. It's not indicative of anything that occurred in the game. 10 minute overtime periods until someone wins. Golden goal after the first two periods.

JV Soccer is what it is. Varsity rules should be changed first. PKs are terrible.

I think that we should have 40 min halves. It'll give some of the "benchwarmers" oppertubities to play. Also, it'll give the teams a longer time to play. We should keep the overtime and pk's because people like playing ot and lots of players love doing pk's.

The duration of the match weather it is 30-35 for JV and 40-45 for varsity will work for some teams, not all!! More importantly let's do away with both overtime and the PK's in regular season matches!!

I like the times in the game just as they are...I remember in JV that we were so horrible i was just ready to get the game over with...I usually racked up quiet a bit of goals against and 30 something saves every game...I also think it would be the greatest thing in the world to do away with pks b/c it puts too much pressure on a goalie...cause when my team ties...I bout have a heart attack hoping my team will score that way i wont have to worry about pks...
Otherwise i think the game is just fine...just take away the pks...
