The Aiken Fire (U17 boys) will begin their quest for a fourth straight South Carolina State championship on Wednesday night at 7:00. The game will be played on the game field at USC-Aiken. Admission is free.
The top eight teams from the state have qualified for the state cup this year. The single elimination tournament starts Wednesday night for the Aiken Fire (#1 seed) and Lexington Fury (#8). The winner will avance to the final four in Summerville, South Carolina on Dec 6 and 7.
Aiken Fire comes off an impressive season in the R3PL (region 3 premiere league) finishing 2nd with a 7-1-1 record. This leage has the state champion and runner up from Ga, Fl, NC, TN and SC. Aiken Fire started slowly, tying the NC state champion, CASL Elite 1-1 before losing to Greensboro, NC 2-0 the next day. Since that weekend in late September, Aiken Fire has run the table, winning seven straight games. They defeated Knoxville Fire 4-0 and SMSC SElect from Knoxville 4-1. The following weekend, Fire defeated its in state rival, St Giles Fusion 3-0 at the Graveyard in Columbia. Two weeks ago they met the two Florida teams in Jekyll island , GA. Fire came away with two identical scores of 5-0,5-0 against the Blackwatch Saints from Tampa, Fl and the Cape Coral Storm. The past weekend, Fire had two hard fought victories against Atlanta Lighting 2-0 and Concorde Fire 2-1 to earn second place in the league. Concorde Fire was the only blemish for Greensboro as Greensboro finished 8-1.
