Norhtside Storm was up on MPSC 1-0. Mount Pleasant was awarded a PK and tied it up. Golden goal OT proved nothing and Northside advanced on PK's.

Congrats Storm.....#6 seed advancing over a #3 seed.

This should be interesting. That means that the Challenge team gets to play Premier league next year while the Premier team plays in state. Let's see how CESA handles this.

Wow, CESA boys U13 is in for a nightmare. CESA Challenge will now have people trying out for the right to play premier since they won. I would hope the Challenge team would keep at least the starting 11 when they go premier. If not, the players and parents from the challenge team might not be very happy. Anyone know the ruling on how many players from the prior season the "new premier" team needs to keep?

Northside U-13B had two kids out with injuries, one kid very sick and two kids on a school trip. That left them with eleven.

A full Northside team, or better yet, the Mt. Pleasant team that Northside eliminated last weekend, would have given CSC a much better match.

Congrats to the Burn Navy, I hear they are a very good team.

It is fairly simple . The u13 Cesa p will have to win 3rd place . The challenge is at least 2nd . So the club will have the challenge falling into to the not interested in playing premier so it will fall to the 3rd place team which should be cesa premier.

So you're saying...they(whoever "they" is) assume the majority of the players on the Challenge team would not be interested in playing in Premier league?? So it would default to Premier team?? I would think they(the challenge team) fought too hard for the win to give up the priviledge of playing premier. Should be interesting...

UPstate: nothing you said is simple. First off, the Challenge team is guarenteed a spot in the Premier league. The Premier team (I hate those names) is not, even if they get third place. Only the top two teams are guarenteed Premier league.

Now, that being said, if both teams somehow make it into the Premier league then I would think that CESA would keep the teams mostly the same. However, if only the challenge team gets to play Premier then the club has a dilemma on how they should staff that team.

They do, as you have said, have the option of dropping the Challenge team out of the Premier league and pushing the Premier team up, but in my opinion, if that is the option that is chosen, would be the most unfair thing I have ever seen done to a group of kids.

Wow! What good fortune to have a problem such as this -- truly competitive teams and coaching!

Congratulations to the CESA U13 Challenge team; superb result. Good luck in the finals today!

Very shortly there will be a try-out for the u-14 teams. All teams. Some of the p boys will probably make c and some of the c boys will probably make p. So the club has 1 spot before todays game are played and that is with this year Challenge team . Congratulation to those boys and coaches. Win or lose I think the club will have them default on the oppurtunity to play in the premier league which will allow the 3rd place team to step in that spot .That was the purpose of having a premier, challenge and classic team. The u 17 G had 2 teams playing premier this year and it really was not very successful. The U 18 girls have earned that shot again.Premier does require more time and $$ which does create problems for famlies and players who enjoy the game but do not want their lifes center around soccer.

CSC Burn Navy U13B are champs with a hard fought 2-1 Golden Goal victory in the 2nd overtime period.

CESA Premier U14B over DSC Mutiny 2-1 - a shocker, but they are a top team also.

CESA Premier U11B over CSC Burn Navy 3-1 (I believe that was the score).

Let me see if I can get this right for Regionals;

U-14B, CESA U-14G, CESA
U-15B, CESA U-15G, CESA
U-16B, CESA U-16G, CESA
U-17B, CESA U-17G, CESA
U-18B, CESA U-18G, CESA

Looks like that merger thing worked;

Oh, U-19B, CESA puting a team together
Oh, U-19G, CESA puting a team together

Ouch!!

Stop it !! Please Stop It!! Doesn't anything else see that CESA is an Evil Monster? They will eat up every opponent, take every quality player and
win every state championship for the next 100 years! I even heard rumors that they plan to storm the offices of the SCYSA, throw out Beiber and his crowd, and change the name to SCCESA! Please Fred, save us all???!!?? Can't you all see their evil plans??? Its like in the Movie, 'The Blob'!

Just a thought about the "CESA Domintation" at the State Cups. One year ago how many teams did St Giles and GFC send to the regionals in Austin? The best I remember, from being there, I only saw one team that was not from St Giles or GFC. If that is not correct please please correct my error. If that is true then would you not think that after merging these two clubs that they should continue to place at least as many if not more teams in the regional tournament???? If they had won only 8 of the 10 would that have made it a bad year and the merger not working as it is expected???? What happened in the younger age groups, where is the CESA domination there? or does that not really matter???

Just a couple of thoughts: please weigh in with your thoughts.

Congrats to the U13 CSC Boys on their well earned State Championship. You boys rock!!!!!!!!

Not sure there CSC GR, but I believe CESA took both 11s, both 12s had 2 of the top 3 13B and were runnerup in the 13G. I guess domination would have been all wins...no that would have been termination, I'd say they did dominate and the young ages do look very good from my view...retired.

I know that at least three other teams other than Giles or GFC were there.Aiken 17 boys, Summerville 14 boys, Mt. Pleasant 14 girls. Not sure beyond that.

Congrats to CSC 13 boys and Mt. Pleasant 13 girls.CESA won 6 of 8 with 3 finalist.

>> [CSC Girls Rock] One year ago how many teams did St Giles and GFC send to the regionals in Austin? The best I remember, from being there, I only saw one team that was not from St Giles or GFC. If that is not correct please please correct my error.<<

I believe the answer is 5 of 10. MPSC Legend [U14G], SSC Sporting [U14B], Aiken Fire [U17B], CSC Force [U15G], and CGSA Fusion [U17G] all won the challenge cup in their age/gender groups for that period.

I did an analysis 18 months ago [or so] that showed GFC and SGU combined over the last few years got approximately 51% of first and second places [2 points for first, 1 point for second] -- so this seems to reflect the trend from 1999 to through May 2004.

>>If that is true then would you not think that after merging these two clubs that they should continue to place at least as many if not more teams in the regional tournament???? If they had won only 8 of the 10 would that have made it a bad year and the merger not working as it is expected????<<

No, it would not have meant that, in my opinion.

>>What happened in the younger age groups, where is the CESA domination there? or does that not really matter???<<

As I've repeatedly said, I think that the term "domination" is inappropriate regardless of whether you're speaking of December or May challenge cup results. There were many, many, many very tough and well-fought games by lots of teams.

Oh come on Chico, let's keep a spirited thread going..CSC GR brought up domination. Truly, an unbelieveable year, numerous breaks were taken advantage of, may never happen again...but DOMINATION this year. The Regional Booklet will look nice. Biggest decision now is, CESA or Carolina Elite Soccer Academy. The envy of the Region, ha ha

But congrats to the "evil red machine" or to the hard working kids and parents from CESA.....not to mention the coaches and administrators that made it happen....

Bob/retired/troublemaker! and Shearer: We'll have to agree to disagree on the term "domination"; I just don't see it - tremendous competition and many close games.

I agree with the congratulations of all of the players, parents, and coaches. In my opinion, Andrew Hyslop and Pearse Tormey deserve a tremendous amount of credit for superb execution of the merger as well. The thing about mergers of anything is that the good ones make it appear deceptively easy, while the bad ones make all mergers look impossible. You've got to look no further than Atlanta at the Silverbacks "merger" to realize all of the possible pitfalls of this kind of thing not done well.

I agree with Chico that the term "domination" is not the proper word to use while describing CESA's level of success. If CESA had won the majority of their State Cup final games in the Fall by three or four goals, THAT would be domination. Even to win ALL of the final matches, as they did - if they were mostly close, hard-fought contests, I consider that impressive, yes; but domination, no.

Of course, if my child played for CESA, and I was bragging about the club, I would certainly use the term “domination” to describe their success. But he doesn't and I don't.

Chico....I see your point. I am sure the games were great...but my point is that CESA won 75% of the state titles offered by SCYSA at the highest level. I would call that dominating. But I do see where you are coming from.

Shearer, you are right and wrong, CESA took 14 of 16 for 87%+. I agree the year was dominating as CSC GR brought up. Belligerent, if all the results were by multi goals it would be embarrassing, this was just dominating.
Your child could maybe and you could then.

Just stirring it up, because I can and will.

Shearer - 2004 only got it partly right - "irregardless" isn't really a word. Yes, Webster has added it recently, but only because people who don't know any better continue to use it, REGARDLESS of its incorrectness - I guess they figured "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em."

Also, I believe this "domination" topic is purely subjective. I even went so far as to look it up in the dictionary (granted, it is the Second College Edition - maybe the First was defective?) but I still don't think "domination" is the right word. They "kicked-butt" for sure. The first "Dream Team" - all those big-name basketball players - Jordan, Shaq, whoever - THOSE guys dominated. CESA ONLY "kicked-butt."

A great deal of discussion about CESA. Here's one to congratulate the CSC Burn 91 Navy team that won the U13 Boys title! The boys kept their composure after falling behind and enduring some heckling from the sidelines (CESA team that was not playing in the game). It was a competitive game and much credit should also go to the CESA Challenge team, which has made great strides.
