Pearse Tormey Named to Coaching Staff for adidas Elite Soccer Program 2005

Co-Executive Director of Carolina Elite Soccer Academy Joins Former US National Team Players and Other Top Youth Coaches

Portland, Oregon, May 17, 2005 - Brian Quinn, former United States national team star and Coaching Coordinator for the adidas Elite Soccer Program (ESP) 2005, has announced that Pearse Tormey, Co-Executive Director of the Carolina Elite Soccer Academy (Greenville, South Carolina), will be on the coaching staff for this year’s program, which will be held July 5-10 at The Loomis Chaffee School in Windsor, CT.

“The adidas Elite Soccer Program is the country’s most prestigious soccer showcase for high school-aged boys. We want to help each player reach his potential. Therefore, we select a coaching staff that can not only challenge the players but also relate to them in terms of their aspirations,” noted Quinn. He continued, “That is why I am so pleased that Pearse Tormey will be on the 2005 coaching staff. Pearse was a youth international for Ireland, an NCAA champion at Clemson University, and a collegiate All American before becoming a very successful youth coach. His club, CESA, just won 14 out of the16 South Carolina state championships for the 2004/2005 season . Pearse can teach the game of soccer and he knows what it takes for young men to grow.”

The rest of the adidas ESP 2005 coaches announced by Quinn include:
o Desmond Armstrong --- 84 appearances for the US National Team, including the 1990 World Cup; USSF “A” license; Technical Director at the Soccer Association of Columbia (MD)
o Paul Caligiuri --- 110 appearances for the US National Team, including the 1990 and 1994 World Cups; inducted into the National Soccer Hall of Fame; USSF “A” license; head coach at California Poly at Pomona
o Michael Curry --- Director of “The Goalkeeping Academy”; National Soccer Coaches Association of America Goalkeeping Staff; Maryland and Eastern Pennsylvania Olympic Development Coaching Staffs
o Eric Eichmann --- 29 appearances for the US National Team, including the 1990 World Cup; USSF “A” license; two time collegiate All American and NCAA champion; Director of Coaching at Boca United FC (FL)
o Carlos Juarez --- Former coach with US U16, U17, and U20 National Teams as well as college and professional teams; US Soccer’s Instructional Staff; USSF “A” license, Technical Director at the Claremont Stars Soccer Club (CA)
o Rene Miramontes --- USSF “A” license; former US Soccer National Hispanic Coaching Coordinator and Assistant Coach in Major League Soccer; NSCAA National Coach of the Year; Technical Director at Alliance Soccer Club (CA)
o Todd Saldana --- Played for North American Soccer League champions; former coach with US U17, U18 National Teams as well as college teams, including NCAA champions; USSF “A” license; Director of Coaching at South Bay Soccer Club (CA)

Pearse’s expertise combined with the expertise of the rest of the coaching staff is essential because the adidas Elite Soccer Program is designed to provide the participating players with the best personal development opportunities possible.”

Started in 1997, adidas ESP is a U.S. Youth Soccer-sanctioned Olympic Development Program that identifies the country’s best high school-aged players and provides them with a multi-faceted curriculum featuring challenging on and off the field activities, including:
· Technical training sessions with coaches from AC Milan, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich.
· Team training sessions with some of the finest coaches in the United States.
· Performance fitness testing conducted by Athletes’ Performance.
· Competitive games among teams composed of the adidas ESP participants.
· Motivational talks about succeeding at higher levels in the game and in other endeavors.
· Sports psychology sessions focusing on team building and maintaing focus in competitive situations led by Dr. Greg Dale of Duke University.
· College preparatory workshops conducted by Kaplan Learning.

An estimated 150 coaches, primarily from college ranks and professional teams, are expected to scout the players attending adidas ESP 2005. Past adidas ESP participants have gone on to play at the collegiate, professional and World Cup levels of soccer. At the recent Major League Soccer Super Draft over 60% of the top twenty draft picks attended adidas ESP.

Mr. Tormey was also a coach/instructor with the 2004 ESP.
