Brookland-Cayce 2, Dreher 1 (OT)
The Cage | Cayce, SC

Senior midfielder Biff Blocker knocked in the game-winner 1:15 into the first overtime period on a throw-in from fellow classmate Usman Salahuddin to give the Bearcats a thrilling 2-1 victory at The Cage.

B-C played an up-tempo and fast-paced match as evidenced by the 28-6 shot advantage, but this year's version of Bearcat Soccer is also known as "The Gang Who Can't Shoot Straight" as Brookland-Cayce missed countless opportunites in every imaginable scenario throughout the match.

The Bearcats took the early lead just 4:07 into the match when sophomore Senad Ademovic slotted home a throw-in from Salahuddin to put B-C ahead 1-0. Brookland-Cayce would not relinquish that lead however, until the 76:41 mark of the game when sophomore Ben Wislinski headed home a midfield indirect cross from fellow classmate David Kettinger to knot the score at 1-1 and send the match into overtime.

The win improved B-C to 15-4-4 overall and the Bearcats' clinched the Region 5-3A Championship with a 7-0 record. Brookland-Cayce will host Newberry next Tuesday at B-C. The loss dropped Dreher to 9-9 overall and 6-2 in the region to finish second in Region 5-3A.

Brookland-Cayce has now captured six consecutive region championships in Class 3A and eight titles in the last nine years: 1994-95 Class 4A; and 1997-98-99-2000-01-02 Class 3A. B-C's Class of '02 is now 34-1 in region play and have defeated their region arch-rivals of Dreher six-straight times and lead the overall series 17-10.

Kyle has a good analysis of this game. BC completely dominated the tempo and really should have scored 4-5 goals last night. I know they started kind of slow, but they look like they've hit their stride right now. Maybe we can see them again in the playoffs. Good luck!

I'd have to disagree. BC did control a larger portion of the game but domination is hardly the word. Dreher's Defense did a spectacular job of marking up on BC's offense especially Jabari. It was a very good game to watch and maybe the 2 teams will meet again in the playoffs.
