S.A.P., not trying to take anything away from the NECSA kid, but if team at the top of a bracket gets their goals from 8 or 10 players, and then you have a team in the bottom 50% of the bracket with a kid who does all the scoring, that kid still may not get noticed, especially if he gets completely shut down, as he did in the game I saw him play. He'd probably do better taking a short drive to try out for Tega Cay, where, if he is as good as you say he is, he should get a lot more chances to show what he's got.

I agree but with all the various merger talk where does he go? You mention Tega Cay but CESA just entered the Columbia market as well and then of course CSC and NECSA are merging. I don't think you were taking anything away from him. My point was that statistics can be inflated/overrated/easier to come by on a top team.

Sons A Player,

The Tega Cay U13 team is established - it may have gotten a new name over the summer, but the coach and players are (pretty much) the same as last year.

Who knows what is going to happen with CSC and NECSA? I guess you can take your chances, but CSC has been at the bottom of the pile in that age group for some time now, and NECSA is in the bottom half. Will a merger put them in the top half - your guess is as good as mine.

Like I said, Tega Cay has a strong team. I think some of their losses this past season were purely bad luck.

If you live near NECSA and, after a merger, you end up practicing at the Ballentine fields, I am thinking that your drive time to Tega Cay would not be too much further. But, would an extra 10 or 15 minutes be worth it? You have to decide. Might be worth talking to the Tega Cay coach.
Good luck.

Belligerent, you mentioned the Bridge Red, aren't they a true u-12 playing at u-13? If so will they stay u-13 next year or go on up to u-14?

I watched them play this weekend at the SSC tourney...very impressive team.

That is an impressive team. Seems Bridge has done what CESA has done in the upstate - get the best players, in each age group, in their region together. Almost all the CESA and Bridge teams could play a year up and be competitive.

I have a son that plays on the CESA U13 Challenge team and they played the Bridge Red team down in Savannah a few weeks ago. Bridge Red is a very talented team but their size may be a limiting factor for them...at least at this time in their growth. CESA won 4 - 1 but Bridge's determination and skill was very impressive...good luck to them during the season.

SoccerPOP,

Yes, the Bridge FA 92 Boys Reds are a true U12 team. They actually have one player who is a true U10! For their age and size, they have done extremely well so far.

I do not know what they will do next season - I imagine who they have show up for tryouts in a few months will be a determining factor.

I agree with GVLSD, their size will be a detriment at some point in time if they continue to play up - the boys in the U13 group are starting to hit that growth spurt, and the Reds will be a little ways behind everyone else in that aspect.

When they finally go back to their own age group, they will clean up.

LD, I could be wrong, but the coach I remember last year sure looks and sounds like the coach this year.

Tega Cay U-13B coach is the same.
Tega Cay U-12B coach changed.

Tega Cay U-12's are a decent team. If they could bring four of the local boys currently playing for Charlotte Soccer Club back home, they would give the Reds a match.
