The United States will struggle defensively as long as Arena keeps penciling in Agoos' name in the starting lineup.

I said it after the first half of the first match against Portugal -- he's too old and slow!

Kyle, your point was proven this morning. Both of the first two goals were scored right beside Agoos' feet. He had the chance to stop them...if only he had reacted quick enough. Then after a collision with a Polish player, his knee began to hurt (which slowed him down even more). Then minuets later, after a free kick, he claims someone threw something from the crowd and hit his calf. I believe this is just too many injuries (that totally affect his play) for one game. I mean his team was getting knocks and hits just as much as he was because it is a part of the game. I guess he just couldn't handle all of them. Obviously, the amount of games he has played altogether lately has chipped away at his strength and speed(which he didn't have much to start with.) I hope that when the USA plays Mexico Monday, either Agoos' name is off the starting list, or some drastic changes in Agoos' future performances.

I agree with you guys the U.S. "D" needs work. Agoos is just to old. Pope has been holding it together but even he gets pulled out (to cover for Agoos) and then everything gets messed up. But I think Franky Hedjuk(sp) was probably the best defensive player for the US against Poland. I remember him stoping atleast 3 possible breakaways and then numerous other defensive stands that were important. Pope also made some crucial steals but the "D" still needs a lot of work.

Something else that really dissapointed me was the midfield. The sure didn't help the "D" very much, No one was getting back which resulted in lots of tight situations. The whole team just seemed to not really be in that match. But oh well, lets see Monday.

The usa has a good defense..without agoos. You have seen it against mexico. It was a shutout. I dont care how bad a defense you say it is, you dont shut a team like mexico out in the world cup without having a good Defense. Now with hejduk (who is good) back, and o'brien back in the middle
i believe the usa will beat Germany in pk's. Friedel is a human wall.

I also agree that Sanneh played well stepping it up on defense and also taking a crucial role in the offense. I think it is ironic though that Sanneh was not able "climb the ladder" against Ballack to knock out the winning cross. Just thought that was interesting. Anyone else notice that?

i would have to agree with l-e dude. sanneh who is by far the usa's tallest defender was not able to get up with ballack on the cross. but u cant rely on him to make every play.
