Virginia's Alecko Eskandarian Named ACC Player Of The Week

UVa's Eskandarian receives award for the second time this season

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - For the second time this season, University of Virginia men's soccer player Alecko Eskandarian (Montvale, N.J./Bergen Catholic) was named the Atlantic Coast Conference's Player of the Week . Eskandarian scored seven points resulting from three goals and one assist to lead the Cavaliers to a 2-0-0 record for the week, including an important ACC victory over the #18 ranked Duke Blue Devils. He also shared the weekly honor with North Carolina's Ryan Kneipper earlier this season back on September 4th.

Eskandarian, a third-year forward, recorded his three goals and one assist for Virginia in the Cavaliers' 5-2 victory over Liberty (10/16) and in UVa's 3-1 win over #18 Duke (10/20). Against Liberty, Eskandarian scored two-goals (including the game-winner) and added an assist for five points in the match. Against Duke, he scored the game-tying goal (two points) in the contest to give him a total of seven points for the week.

For the season, Eskandarian has started all 12 games he has appeared in and has recorded team-highs for points scored (40), goals scored (18), game-winning goals scored (five), shots (63) and shots on goal (34). He is also tied for second on the team with four assists. For his career, Eskandarian has scored 99 points which ranks him ninth all-time at Virginia in career scoring. He is also sixth all-time at UVa for goals scored in a career with 43 and is tied for third all-time for game-winning goals scored in a career with 14.

Eskandarian and the Cavaliers will return to home action on Wednesday, October 23rd when Virginia hosts the Old Dominion Monarchs in a non-conference match. The contest is scheduled to begin at 5:00 PM and will be played at UVa's Klöckner Stadium.
