The Palmetto State will be represented by five teams in the 2002 NCAA Men's Soccer Division I Championships. The College Cup will be played December 13 and 15 at Southern Methodist University.

Clemson (12-4-3) from the Atlantic Coast Conference, Coastal Carolina (18-2-2) from the Big South Conference, Furman (17-2-1) from the Southern Conference, South Carolina (11-7-1), which is an Independent in men's soccer, and Winthrop (15-6-1) from the Big South Conference will participate in the 48-team field. Furman and Winthrop each won their conference tournament title and earned automatic bids, while Clemson, Coastal Carolina, and South Carolina were at-large selections after being ranked much of the season.

Charleston (11-7-2) of the Southern Conference was not selected.
