Steve McManaman wants out of Real Madrid in the summer because of limited first team chances.

Newcastle United insist they have made a bid on Jonathan Woodgate although Leeds deny the statement, perhaps because Leeds manager Terry Venables says he will resign if Woodgate is sold.

Middlesborough signed Derby County duo Chris Rigott and Malcom Christie.

Brian Kerr was appointed as the new Republic of Ireland manager and immediately hints that Roy Keane may be coming back to the international fold after leaving the world cup because the facilities were not to his liking (the Irish team had no gear or footballs for the first few days!!)

Arsenal signed French goalkeeper Guillame Warmuz as cover for David Seaman on a free transfer under the Bosman ruling.

Republic of Irelands new manager Brian Kerr leaves Manchester United hard man Roy Keane out of his first squad who are in line to meet Scotland next month.
