It was officially announced on Monday that the 2003 Women's World Cup will be hosted by the U.S. after concerns over the SARS epidemic in China forced the change. Specific details concerning schedules and venues have not yet been determined.

it'll be interesting to see how this affects us getting the men's WC in 2014

does anyone think that the Battery's Blackbaud stadium will be used as a venue. I hope so because it would bring alot to this soccer community. just wanted to see everyone elses opinion.

Blackbaud Stadium is a terrific venue, and I certainly hope it is considered. In 1999, the original plans were to use smaller venues similar to Blackbaud, but after the tremendous response from the U.S. market, the venues were all changed to larger arenas. With the short notice to put this tournament together, I suspect more intimate spaces like Blackbaud will be a consideration.

Phildelphia, PA -- Lincoln Financial (USA Game on 9/25)

Portland, OR -- PGE Park (Semifinals on 10/5)

Washington, DC -- RFK Stadium (USA Game on 9/21)

Unfortunately, no games in the southeast! What gives?

U.S. will face Korea DPR (9/28 @ Columbus, OH), Nigeria (9/25 @ Philadelphia, PA), and Sweden (9/21 @ Washington DC).

The U.S. won the FIFA Women's World Cup in 1991 and 1999 and were the Olympic gold medalists in 1994. They are currently ranked #1 in the world ahead of Norway, Germany, China, and Sweden.
