Zidane pips Henry to FIFA award

Zinedine Zidane has beaten France teammate Thierry Henry in the to be crowned FIFA's World Player of the Year.

The Real Madrid midfielder came out on top of the poll to win the award for the third time in his career - the second man to land a hat-trick of crowns after team-mate Ronaldo, who came third this year.

The coaches of 142 national teams were asked to cast three votes with the first nomination receiving five points, the second three and third one.

Zidane accumulated 264 votes, Henry 186 and Ronaldo 176.

England captain and Real Madrid midfielder David Beckham polled 74 votes to finish seventh.
