In slow times we seek diversion where we can find it. This is a thread for the posting of interesting soccer quotes. I'll move my biblical soccer quotes into it.

A quick survey of low hanging biblical soccer quotes:

"The Lord is thy keeper: the Lord is the shade upon thy right hand. The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night."

"Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended, but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward toward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus."

"And the LORD said unto Cain, Where is Abel thy brother? And he said, I know not: Am I my brother's keeper? / And he said, What hast thou done? the voice of thy brother's blood crieth unto me from the ground."

"Neither shalt thou desire thy neighbour's wife, neither shalt thou covet thy neighbour's house, his field, or his manservant, or his maidservant, his ox, or his ass, or any thing that is thy neighbour's."

"And when we were all fallen to the earth, I heard a voice speaking unto me, and saying in the Hebrew tongue, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me? it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks."

Quote from 2004striker:

lpaf,
Since you are looking for biblical references to soccer, consider these two quotes. (I could not find the direct biblical references, however) :
"If God had meant us to play football in the sky, he'd have put grass up there." ~~ Brian Clough, 1991, manager of Nottingham Forest, bemoaning the method of football known as the 'long ball game'.

And then this one from the modern-day Dehlilah and conservative harlot:
'Liberal soccer moms are precisely as likely to receive anthrax in the mail as to develop a capacity for linear thinking.'
~~ Ann Coulter (Jerusalem harlot)

Thanx lpaf. This is another one I posted earlier in another forum. Not biblically oriented, yet still, I feel noteworthy:
'To say that these men paid their shillings to watch twenty-two hirelings kick a ball is merely to say that a violin is wood and catgut, that Hamlet is so much paper and ink.' ~J.B. Priestley, The Good Companions, 1928

The rules of soccer are very simple, basically it is this: if it moves, kick it. If it doesn't move, kick it until it does. ~Phil Woosnam, 1974

All that proves is that most of the world is too poor to build bowling alleys, golf courses, tennis courts and baseball fields. There's hundreds of millions of poor people out there who still ain't got indoor plumbing, but that don't mean there's something great about an outhouse. Soccer is boring. I've never seen a more boring sport. ~Mike Royko, 1994

I don't believe in God, in Spain all 22 players cross themselves, if it works the game is always going to be a tie.

Good quotes there AK45. But can you explain your own personal motivation for your selection of the quote at the bottom of your posts?

OK. Scarlett was a beautiful southern belle? And Rhett was a man of action? Sorta like 007? No, please don't change your quote. It does not offend me.

I remembered Ray Hudson had some good quotes when he coached DCU, so, after a google, I found these:

"He's a competitor. . . . He'd stab his grandmother in the eyes just for another bowl of porridge." - Ray Hudson, describing the sometimes questionable style of play from Dema Kovalenko.

"This isn't a scientific thing.....sometimes you just need a little luck…unfortunately, Lady Luck keeps showing us her big, ugly ass." - Hudson, right after DC tied at home for the third consecutive game.

"Without penetration, it's just masturbation, and right now, we're playing with ourselves." - DC United head coach Ray Hudson, discussing his team's inability to score goals.

And a few non-Hudson quotes:

"My wildest dreams? They don't have anything to do with soccer." - Germany's Nia Kuenzer, after scoring the winning goal for her team in the World Cup Final, when asked if she ever dreamt of anything so exhilarating.

"It felt like we were on a desert island and got rescued by the Coors Light girls." - Former Dallas coach Mike Jeffries, after his team's first win, a 3-2 victory over D.C. United.
