Okay.. the guy that does analysis with Lou Holtz.. my bad.. always get them mixed up.

Seriously though.. I watch PTI sometimes.. a lot this summer actually.. and I still have no idea what those guys stand for. Seems like every other day they're totally against whatever it was they were defending the day before.

They're the Enquirer of sports media as far as I'm concerned..

Shearer: Agreed; it's a superb analysis of the situation. In my opinion, it's what happens when you have people who have unaligned goals. My guess is that Nowak doesn't give a rats behind about the financials of the club; his job has been defined only as winning. If this is the case, then it's the owner who is to blame.

Hopefully Adu will be traded after the MLS season; picked up by an owner who has a stronger desire to grow her or his market. The worst-case for MLS is that he sporadically plays for another 2 years; then breaks his contract at 18 (he's got a 4 year contract with a 2 year option) through a litigation strategy involving the fact that the contract was signed/approved by a minor, and goes to Europe.

Mark May is the guy that is w/ holtz...both bumbling idiots in my eyes.....Wilbon is pretty fair w/ soccer and fianlly some media coverage. At least soccer is inthe Washington POst. Ten years ago it would not have been!!! I might not agree w/ everything Wilbon argues BUT he got this one SPOT ON!!!!!

Possible also that a rumor circulating in Manchester newspapers that Adu is coming to Manchester United, possibly as early as January 06, is timed with this story.

well done on this thread. i agree that he was led on and probably should have waited to sign overseas. if he does, will he come back? probably not. but, who cares. he needs to be overseas anyway. in my opinion, he could make the world cup side.

Any player, in any sport, much less a still-wet-behind-the-ears 16 year old kid, who calls out his coach in public, is just asking for trouble. He deserved the suspension, I'm sure he got a lot more from Nowak on the training pitch and behind closed doors. Whatever happens in the future with his career is just business.

DCU is focused on winning a MLS Cup and Nowak would bench his own mother if it would help achieve that goal.

kickman: If you haven't already and are interested in this, I recommend the book "The Bell Curve" -- it's nothing about athletics, but it does a good job of showing economic models associated with value-add. Basically, correctly operating markets are going to pay those that add the highest value.

There's no doubt that D.C. United, and the MLS as a whole, shouldn't have offered Adu a contract -- the ability of the team and the league to capitalize on the business opportunities associated with the kid have been non-existent.

If the rumors are true and he goes to Manchester United he will get a rude awakening if he tries that with Alex Ferguson!

Adu is 16, what a joke, and O.J. is innocent. My guess 23-25!! Why all the talk, if he was that good, he would be making millions overseas.

Kickman--
Your right that's my team, they do play "Truly Challenging Soccer" and next game I'll have the team mom leave the capri suns and orange slices at home, and purchase all the ice cream off your ice cream truck. Make sure you wear the clown outfit, the team love's it!
