South Carolina (12-6-2) and Wake Forest (11-7-2) will play either Saturday or Sunday ... The winner will play at #10 national seed Old Dominion (15-3-2) on November 22 ... On the other side of this bracket is Ohio State (11-7-2) at Santa Clara (12-6-2) and that match winner will play at #7 national seed California (13-3-2).

Coastal Carolina (11-8-1) will play at Clemson (11-5-3) in the First Round and the winner of that game will play at #14 national seed North Carolina State (11-6-1) next Tuesday.

Maryland is the #1 national seed followed by New Mexico, Indiana, and North Carolina.

Well it could be looked at as what goes around comes around. Last year SoCOn Champ CofC had to travel to USC. There have been many years that USC should have traveled but McGee "bought" home games for the Gamecocks.

With that being said......USC got SCREWED big time!!!

Clemson got off pretty darn good. they match up well w/ NCSU IF they can get by Jordie Hughes and Coastal!@!

Not taking sides in this issue since I am a South Carolina fan, but perhaps the NCAA Tournament Committtee considered the fact that the Gamecocks were 0-3-0 vs. Atlantic Coast Conference teams in 2005, including a 0-3 loss vs. Wake Forest at Chapel Hill in the NIKE Classic. USC also lost at Clemson (1-2 ot) and at North Carolina (0-2).

So, when you take into account that South Carolina won the Conference USA Tournament and finished second in the regular season behind Southern Methodist, and the Committee may have felt like USC's performance against the #6, #7, and #8 teams from the ACC did not warrant a home match. Only Boston College did not make the postseason from the ACC.

Whatever reasoning, GO COCKS!

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest junior Ryan Solle scored his first career goal and added his school record 13th assist to lead the No. 23 Demon Deacons over No. 17 South Carolina, 2-0, in first round action from the 2005 NCAA Men's Soccer Tournament. With the victory, Wake Forest will advance to the second round and travel to No. 10 seed Old Dominion on Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m.

After the Deacons (12-7-2) and Gamecocks (12-7-2) each created outstanding scoring chances over the match's first 45-minutes, Wake Forest finally broke through a stingy South Carolina defense midway through the second-half. After Makan Hislop was issued a red card in the 53rd minute, South Carolina was forced to play a man down. The Deacons took advantage.

Freshman defender Sam Cronin played a deep crossing ball over the Gamecocks defense to an unmarked Solle on the back post. Solle settled the cross and blasted a shot past the sprawling South Carolina goalkeeper Mike Gustavson at 68:32. The goal was Solle's first career tally and was his first point since Oct. 4 against Davidson -- a span of eight matches. The assist was Cronin's third of the season.

Wake Forest continued to pressure the Gamecocks net, but Gustavson kept the match close. The netminder recorded five saves on the night, including a pair of point-blank stops.

The Deacons iced the match in the 89th minute when junior Wells Thompson buried a breakaway shot past Gustavson. The goal was Thompson's sixth of the season. Solle's through ball sent Thompson one-on-one with Gustavson and the Winston-Salem native did not miss. The assist was Solle's school record 13th of the year and moved him into a tie for the most in the NCAA this season. Solle, who now has 23 for his career, is even with Vicente Bastidas (2000-03) for fourth all-time in career assists.

South Carolina had its fair share of chances, none better than the opening few minutes. Wake Forest goaltender Brian Edwards made a brilliant save on Ryan Deter's shot from inside the six-yard box. Then, Edwards made another save on Ayo Akinsete's shot from just outside the box. Edwards ended up with four saves for the match and recorded his ninth shutout of the season. The Charlotte native has registered nine shutouts each of the past two years (WFU single-season records) and is just one shutout from breaking Mike McGinty's school record of 18.5 for a career.

The Deacons and Monarchs have faced twice in NCAA Tournament history (1989 and 2002). Wake Forest proved victorious in each meeting, but both meetings took place in Winston-Salem.

Why did USC's Hislop get a red card?

Even though they lost, I was very glad to see that both Spencer Lewis and Brennan Williams were subbed in very early (I believe in the 30's). Congrats to them on a successful freshman season.

Raleigh, N.C. -- The 18th-ranked NC State men*s soccer team saw its season come to a close with a 3-0 loss to No. 12 Clemson in the second round of the NCAA Tournament held Tuesday afternoon at Method Road Soccer Stadium. After a scoreless first half, the Tigers (13-5-3) scored three second half goals and shutout the host Wolfpack (11-7-1).

Clemson held the advantage in shots in the first half, 8-4, but neither team found the back of the net. The Tigers would strike first in the 51st minute as Dane Richards cleaned up a loose ball in the Pack*s penalty box and netted is 10th goal of the season at the 50:36 mark.

The Tigers would add two more goals and advance in the NCAA Tournament to face the winner for No. 3 seeded Indiana and Notre Dame. Hector Quintanar headed in a Randy Albright cross at 68:17, and Danny Poe was also on the receiving end of a Clemson cross for the final goal at 75:23.

NC State lost key personal throughout the game. Starting midfielders John Queeley and El Hadj Cisse did not play, and midfielder Santiago Fusilier and keeper Jorge Gonzalez both left the contest early with injuries.
