Does anyone know how communication is handled on the pitch during World Cup or other international matches? I know that FIFA's four official languages are German, English, French and Spanish. But do all WC referees speak these languages? And certainly there are players that don't speak any of the four? If the teams and the referees do not speak a common language, how do they communicate and how does the referee inforce such rules as:

"A player who is guilty of dissent by protesting at a referee’s decision must be cautioned."

"A player who assaults a referee or who is guilty of using offensive, insulting or abusive language or gestures must be sent off."

Certainly some dissenting behavior and offensive gestures are understood in any language, but verbal remarks can be an issue.

Both quotes are from page 71 of The Laws of the Game 2006.
