My comments on the 2006 World Cup Final:
[*] Great job by Italy for overcoming the early penalty kick to knot the match at 1-1 in the first half. I fully expect to see manager Marcello Lippi on the sideline of an English club in the near future -- most likely, Manchester United.
[*] Super job by Serie A players for putting the match-fixing accusations to the wayside. However, it will be interesting to see what happens to the clubs (especially Juventus' players)!
[*] As an Arsenal fan, I was disappointed to see France have Patrick Vieira and Thierry Henry off the pitch for the second overtime periods, respectively. Vieira's hamstring early in the second half and Henry's cramps in the second overtime period really put France's penalty kick rotation under the microscope. I could have collected big-time money with my statement that David Trezeguet was going to miss his spot-kick.
[*] Fabio Cannavaro was definitely the player of the tourney.
[*] Brent Musberger
(who doesn't know about Jesse Owens and is this the Olympics?) is a doof! I have no problem with Eric Wynalda (dadgum if he doesn't tell it like it is -- at least how he sees the game). As for Julie Foudy on a men's soccer telecast in America -- that's part of the problem in the way it is presented in the United States. It would be totally different if ABC/ESPN utilized her as a 'presenter' instead of an 'analyst'.
[*] For ABC/ESPN -- who gives a crap about the Cialis Western Open today? It's not a major tournament and in my opinion, golf is the most boring sport on television. Give it a rest every four years!
[*] The past month has been great with the World Cup occupying almost every day! Kudos to Germany (from what I've heard) for its' excellent hospitality and professional manner in which they presented the 2006 World Cup. Future countries have a lot to live up to regarding this matter.
As for the comment of
"Seriously though.. what do you say to ZIDANE to provoke that?! I can't imagine what it would take.."I would imagine something was said along the lines of him being of Algerian descent and the Muslim religion. However, the "headbutt" was ridiculous!
Zinedane Zidane -- Look at this incident!
