Quite honestly, not much new to report on National Federation rule changes for 2006-07, but a couple notes to NFHS and SCHSL policy:

***Deadline to report qualifiers is April 27, 2007 at 9:00 a.m. -- no games on/or after April 27.

***JV matches end after regulation time in a TIE -- no overtime is to be played for JV matches.

***Shinguards must meet NOCSAE specifications -- each shinguard should have a NOCSAE approved sticker! (This essentially means we all have to go buy new shinguards with the appropriate sticker -- I'd like the cut the NFHS is getting off this ). All shinguards are to be worn 2" above the ankle and must cover the shin -- not the calf or side of the leg.

***SCHSL's Bruce Hulion will now handle all ejections for all sports -- including soccer. This was a duty formerly conducted by Roger Hazel.

***All other information is available in the SCHSL Handbook and Constitution at SCHSL.

As for other business at the Summer Clinic:

***Thanks to those coaches that attended the sessions!

***Troy Bennage of Academic Magnet was elected Vice-President of the SCHSSCA and will assume the President's role next summer.

***Coach Eric Terrill, women's head coach at Charleston Southern University, presented a variety of soccer topics (warmup, training drills, recruiting, etc.) to the coaches in attendance. Special thanks to CSU players Karen Knight and Briana Murphy who assisted Coach Terrill.

SCHSSCA NOTES

* Overtime Procedure Proposed – Based on votes tallied at SCSOCCER.COM and at the SCACA Summer Clinic a move has been made to change the current overtime procedure for regular season high school soccer in South Carolina.

- The current system has overtime consisting of two five-minute periods and if still tied decided by penalty kicks.

- The proposal is to lengthen overtime to two full 10-minute periods (no “Golden Goal”) and if no one wins the match, then the game would end in a tie.

- The playoff overtime procedure would remain the same as it is now with two full 10-minute periods, followed by two five-minute periods (“Golden Goal” in effect), and if still tied move to a penalty kick shootout.

* CESA North-South Soccer Classic – This year’s event moved to the Upstate after 17 years in Mount Pleasant, SC. The Carolina Elite Soccer Academy (club soccer organization) was our title financial sponsor for the event held at Furman University in June. Despite CESA’s financial assistance, the game came up well short in funds needed as our move to the Upstate resulted in more than $5,000 in lost revenue from sponsors and unfortunate developments “after the fact” with Furman University. We are working hard to meet our financial obligations from last year as we prepare for the 2007 event which will be held June 14-16 at an Upstate site to be determined.

* S.C. State Championships – The response to the State Championships being played at Stone Stadium at USC has been very positive. Our contract with USC is good for the next year, through 2007. Special thanks to those that volunteered to work the games – parking lot, canteen, match administration, setup, etc!!!

* SCSOCCER.COM – The www.scsoccer.com website will continue to be the place for information for high school soccer. Those that are new to prep soccer should become familiar with this tool that serves our sport. Any questions, contact Kyle Heise at kyle@scsoccer.com.

* NSCAA Membership – Reminder to join the NSCAA (www.nscaa.com). Benefits of our coaches joining include:

- The more members from SC equals more chances at All-American and All-Region honors for our boys/girls soccer players;
- State Player of the Year Award
- High School Team Academic Award
- High School Scholar All-Americans
- Regional / National Coach of the Year Awards
