Which do people think would be a more impressive result for a team during a 10 match season in say, a Region III Premier League division? : 3 wins, 7 losses OR 10 ties?

10 ties, no doubt. Why? Because in a normal scoring system you are allotted three points for a win, one point for a tie, and zero points for a loss. Therefore, a 3-7-0 record would equate to nine points in total, while 10 draws at 0-0-10 would equal 10 points.

Also, with no losses on your record, you can always claim to be undefeated (of course, with no wins on your ledger, you aren't a winner either), oh well!

It seems to me 10 ties would indicate a more solid team, as well. The reason I'm thinking about it is that in the Region III Premier League a team is awarded 4 points for a win and 1 point for a tie, making it difficult for teams with more ties but just a couple wins to gain much ground in the standings against teams with just maybe 1 win more but the rest losses. In the Region III Premier League my aforementioned hypothetical scenario would have the team finishing with 10 ties with 10 points, behind the team finishing with only 3 wins and 7 losses with 12 points. I believe in years past, it used to be 3 points for a win and 1 for a tie. I wonder why that changed.

The SCSCL and the PMSL are also recording 4 points for a win and 1 for a tie this season. Is this a new trend?

NCYSA leagues are still using 3 points for a win and 1 for a tie. GYSA on the other hand uses 5 for a win and 2 for a draw. This makes ties count even more than the 3 - 1 system.

So, in SC and the R3PL, ties are worth .25 wins. In NC, they are worth .33 wins, and in GA they count as .40 wins.

I love the consistency.

The GA system is on the right track, but it should be 4 for a win, 2 for a tie, 0 for loss. As it is now, you only receive a 1 point differential when you compare a tie with a loss. A team should receive a larger point differential for a tie v. a loss. You could have a lesser team tie a greater opponent, receive one point, yet get blown out in the next game, and the difference in the 2 games is only 1 point. In the sbs example, the team would have 20 pts. v. 12.

Call me a traditionalist, but I say stay with the tried and true system of 3 for a win and 1 for a draw. That is what most leagues around the world use.

So does anyone know why was the points were changed in premier league and sc challenge league and not the other leagues?
I also agree that IF you are going to change the points system, 4-2-0 would makel more sense.

My guess it depends how many ties = a win.

in the 3-1 system 3 tied games =1 win
in the 4-1 system this is increased by 1
in The 4-2 system 2 ties = a win

Therefore, I theorize that by increasing the wins to 4 it intends to create more attacking play for the win instead of playing for a tie. At the end of season this is where you probably see the jockeying for position and coming into the picture.
