Well I saw that they we're discussing it in the Girl's forum so I decided to ask about the boy's side:

4A
Dutch Fork
Northwestern
Spring Valley

3A
Riverside
Greenville

Would like to see everyone else's thoughts...

Daniel is always a contender in 3A as long as Seth Kulesekara (sp?) is on the field.

I've heard DF is young this year. They do have a solid keeper, but do they really have any one to help Danny Cates on the field?

Dutch Fork is in no way young. yes they have exceptional goal keeping but they have a core group of seniors such as Ryan Martin, Carey Hite, Michael Sullivan, Stephen Shuford, Robbie Birnie, Brian Wedell (if healthy)and Jason McCabe in goal that have all been playing together since they were 11 at CSC (now CUFC). There are several other seniors but these are the seniors who contribute the most. If Dutch Fork cannot put together a championship caliber season this year, it could be a while before the oppurtunity presents itself again.

Thanks for that clarification, I had no idea how DF was truly going to be, everything I heard about them was that they were young, and that Danny Cates is overrated. I've heard that Cates is a great player, but i've never really seen him play very well. Im sure he is a great player or else he wouldn't have made it to the All-American standard.

Finkle:
In the lower state it will be PP and PG, and I'll go with PP.

As I've heard someone very close to one of the upper state teams say, they are going to really be fighting to win the region to avoid PP until the championship game. With that said, CN and Hammond will battle for the region, and BL, HH and WH will battle for the other 2 playoff spots.

Top 5:
Pinewood
Cardinal Newman
Hammond
Porter Gaud
Ben Lippen

the beasts from the North, as in Northwestern, will be back. they have one or 2 good players returning and their jv gave up one goal last year, that's right, 1 goal. if i remember correctly they are still the champs until someone takes away their crown. they may start slow but will be there at the end. 5 of their starters come from the dsc u-16 state champions. they will be solid and will score goals in bunches. ft mill will also be in the hunt as they have a solid nucleus returning and the yellow jackets will be hungry.

I have no doubt that Northwestern will continue to be a force in 4A but when mentioning possible game changing players, don't bring up stats from JV. The varsity and JV game are so different its ridiculous. You cannot compare a single thing from JV to varsity.

As far as 3A goes all I know is that BC lost most of it's starting 11 from last year but should get some good JV players to help them out this year. Chapin is returning some good talent with 5 or 6 players on CUFC U17 Elite team that went to the state final. They also have some great young talent of course in Joey Demore and two or three other freshman who are on the Premier team for that age group.

lincoln will be tough again this year in 1a and possibly better than they were last year they only lost 4 seniors and gained one of the better players in the state so i think they will be just fine and bring home a state championship this year

All i know is porter-gaud is looking strong this year. They only lost about maybe 5 seniors and the seniors this year are looking forward to the season. They lost a defender and 2 mid-fielders and i think some that sat bench everyone else is still playing not including people who are joining this year.

Concerning the best boys HS team - I think Lexington needs some strong consideration. Lexington U17 won the state challenge championship. They have several players off that team on the hs team, plus serval strong starting juniors coming back as seniors. I belive they will have the best defense in the state.

4A - Lexington - probably the best defense in the state
- Northwestern - Enzo - nuf said
- Wando
- Spring Valley

The best team is a toss up between Lexington and Northwestern. Lexington's offensive must improve to win the state. Northwestern's defense must improve to win the state.

Riverside lost 3 varsity players last year. They will have a mostly CESA premier starting line up. With Nick coaching them they are the clear favorite for 3A.

i dont know much about the lowerstate but i do agree that Lexington should have a big impact on the upstate, but dont sleep on Northwestern. With a lot of young talent and some good senior leadership, they might make more noise then most believe, despite losing 15 seniors from last years team.

lots of talk about all the big 4A schools but not much talk about the 3A powerhouses which in my opinion are just as good if not better than most 4A teams

With the exception of Riverside (which may the best team in the state no matter who coaches it), there aren't too many 3A teams this year that will be able to run with most of the good 4A teams. Dreher and Eastside have lost a good bit, as has Greenville. Daniel might be an exception, but I wouldn't put them over Lex, NW, or even Dorman.

i know eastside lost a lot of its core seniors from the CESA 87s? not sure but it seems that Greenville still returns most of their team including Sebastain. As for Daniel they have seth and Riverside has a team stacked with Premier players.

lex has 7 players from the u-17 state champ team and multiple ones from the cufc u-18 team that barely lost to cesa in state cup

Greenville will still be very good. They did not lose many people and with Nick goin to Rhs there will be some added motivation.

yo divinci, i mentioned nhs former jv players for a real good reason: they were all starters from the dsc u-16 challenge cup champions and all are starting odp players one of whom is a region pool player and one of whom is a region player. they b pretty good....nuf said

They are both quality players, but alex is not nearly as big or muscular as his brother, i don't think he will have as big of an impact as a freshman as his brother did in such a physical high school game.

alex is very crafty and quick on the ball, if he can learn to give the ball up at the right times to avoid getting cracked, he will be someone to watch
