The girls side...
CUFC had one team that went 0-3-0

The girls teams at Disney that were listed as CUFC were from Connecticut. I don't believe Columbia United FC had any girls teams in the Disney Showcase.

Thanks coach....I knew there could be room for error.
Maybe some girls teams next year? How about the U16 state champs?

With tournaments being held in Miami, Tampa, Orlando and Cocoa Beach at virtually the same time.....is it fair to say that the majority of college coaches are taking in the Disney Showcase in Orlando?

Kids play sports because they find it fun. Eliminate the fun and soon you eliminate the kid.

CESA U18G went 1-1-1 in the top bracket of Disney—Ended with a match against the #1 team in the nation—All in all—they did well for SC—Watching the Showcase group of U18 really puts our discussions here in perspective—This is the best of the best—

Let's hope our holiday tournaments give our SC teams some momentum for Regionals where we can make a good showing!—Good luck throughout the spring to all our club players—

The CUFC U16 Elite girls played in the Orange Classic last week. They won their group and advanced to the quarterfinals where they lost 2-1 to the New England Eagles from Massachusetts.

The Orange Classic has a long list of college coaches attending. SC colleges represented include: Charleston Southern, The Citadel, Coker, Columbia College, Converse, Erskine, Francis Marion, Lander, Newberry, and USC.

We went to the Disney Showcase because we saw it as an opportunity to fully explore "the beautiful game" in the United States. Our motives were pure, our hearts and minds clean, and we wanted nothing more than to watch and participate in the finest youth soccer in the United States.

Soon after getting to the sports arena, however, we began to sense that something was amiss. Was it the $27 per person tickets to get into the venue? No...we expect high ticket prices at anything related to Disney. Was it the $3 to get an ankle taped? No...we thought it was an honor to have Disney-level trainers touch our unshod feet. Was it the $49 Disney soccer hoodie? No...no price is too high to have a tangible record of the Disney experience.

So what was amiss? I'm sorry to report that it was the college coaches. I knew that there were going to be problems when we were issued taser guns and clubs to ward off what Disney euphemistically referred to as "eager" coaches. These folks were "eager" in the sense of a Doberman tearing the flesh from the face of a burglar; they showed not just enthusiasm but a malevolent sense of malice that struck fear into the stoutest heart.

Not five feet from the entranceway to the sports venue we were accosted by Robbie Church of Duke and Bill Irwin of Portland. As they clung to our ankles begging our daughter to attend their schools on full athletic scholarships we thought we had seen the ultimate degradation of man. However, it only got worse. Todd Bramble of Clemson and Brian Lee of LSU began a bizarre auctioning process in which all sorts of merchandise was offered to entice our daughter to sign with them. Ipods, Coach handbags, and Dior purses were literally thrown at us in the hopes of attracting our attention.

Suddenly a silence fell over the melee. I began to hear whispers, unintelligible at first but I quickly recognized the awe and fear in the tones. I began to make out a few words: "Anson"..."is"..."coming"... Finally, I thought -- we would see a reserved and respectful women's soccer coach who didn't need to be kicked into the gutter of his misplaced expectations. As Anson Dorrance slowly strode into the crowd, it parted almost miraculously and the crowd silenced. Anson leaned in and slowly whispered the words I hear until this day "What will it take -- a Hummer or an Escalade -- tricked out in UNC-Chapel Hill colors, of course?"

I tasered him full in the face as we began running. By clubbing the assembled coaches more ruthlessly than a sailor clubbing a beach full of baby seals we were able to break free and escape. As we drove off I heard my wife, repeatedly whispering "The horror. The horror. Exterminate all the brutes."

Chico,
Sounds like you need the protection of some of my Red Neck League goons. All I have to do is place one call to Darrell or Darrell's Momma Darlene or if you want the best protection,
Darrell, Sr. Let me know the next time you attend a tournament.
