On 3/27/07 @ Chapman (in OT)

Chapman - 4
Broome - 3

Broome's defense seemed to be asleep in the early portion of the first half. Chapman scored a quick goal where the scorer was left by herself. They added another goal later to take a 2-0 half time lead. Broome pressed the attack starting the second half and managed to tie things up with goals from Lauren Hutson (off an assist by Emily Bryant) and Isabelle Berry. Chapman scored again and looked to be on the way to the victory until Meredith Rudasill fed Isabelle Berry from the left wing and Isabelle scored right before the end of regulation. Chapman scored quickly in the first OT period to get the winner. Broome never could break through to tie it again.

The refs were adequate. They had several calls against both teams where I felt play should have continued. The only real complaint I had was one call that went against Broome where the Chapman coach voiced his opinion that a foul had been committed and that resulted in the ref calling the foul well after the play. I also would like to see some improvement for the new Chapman High School soccer field. We were told this was the first game to be played on it. The grass is still coming in and it is very sandy, so maybe that will get better. It also looks like the field was almost an afterthought. It is butted right up against the outfield fence of the softball field, so if a softball game is going on at the same time, the players are in real danger of getting hit by a home run. The field size is small to say the least and reminds me of Union's in size and how the touchlines on the fan seating side are right below the bank, so you only have a few feet for throw-ins unless you want to run downhill. I really hope they play the varsity soccer games in the football stadium once it gets completed.

deahler,

Do you have a better link to the game story? I can't find it.

Here is the report I received from the Mauldin/Spartanburg game. The score was 0-0 at the half and most of the 1st half was played in the Spartanburg end of the field. Mauldin had several shots on goal. In the 2nd half Spartanburg scored first on a shot from outside the 18. Mauldin began to push the Spartanburg defense harder and leveled the game on a long throw-in which was one touched into the net from inside the box. Game ended 1-1. No score in the first 5 mins. OT. Mauldin scored on a feed from the mid-field to the running forward who one touched the ball into the net. The Spartanburg keeper was busy most of the game and made some great saves. Mauldin has a player with a rocket of a throw-in which created several opportunities though out the game. Also noted was the Dorman coaching staff and several Dorman players were in attendance. The rematch with Dorman will be Friday night at Dorman.

Hurst66,

I couldn't find a game story at the Greenville News site, or the Spartanburg Herald-Journal site. I just saw the game score reported at the GN site.

All of you high school sports fans in York County should count yourselves "lucky". I don't think any other paper in this state covers their local high school sports teams as well as the Rock Hill Herald does.

There is more advertising revenue in the weekly Fort Mill Times than there is in the Mon - Sat editions of The Herald!
