Have to differ with you on several games but come out with the same final 4 and champions. Here are my predictions for the winners:

First round winners:
TL Hanna, South Aiken, Dorman, Irmo, Fort Mill, Wren, Lexington, Mauldin
Dutch Fork, James Island, Richland Northeast, West Ashley, Wando, Spring Valley, Summerville, Ridge View

Second round winners:
TL Hanna, Irmo, Fort Mill, Lexington
Dutch Fork, West Ashley, Wando, Summerville

Third round winners:
Irmo, Lexington
Dutch Fork, Wando

Upper State Champ: Lexington
Lower State Champ: Dutch Fork (Upset)

State Champions: Lexington

It sure would be good to have a girls AAAA State Champion from the Midstate for the first time since Richland Northeast in 2001.

LF,

You have Lex winning the Upper State Championship without having to play Fort Mill or Dorman. Nice!

Here's my prediction:

1st - Fort Mill 2, Aiken 0
2nd - Fort Mill 2, Wren 1
Quarters - Fort Mill 2, Greenwood 0
Upper State - Fort Mill 3, Clover 2
State Championship - Fort Mill 1, James Island 0

FORT MILL State Champs! (with a little help from a couple of lower seeds).

A lot of people have Irmo prevailing over Dorman in the second round. That game should be a great rematch from last years State Championship.

You guys are all w----a----y off base!! No way will James Island come out of the Lower State Bracket.. I was looking at the Region Stats. If I am correct, James Island was behind Wando and Stratford..James Island's Record was 7-12 when last recorded. How can you say James Island will win when there are powerhouses like Wando in the lower state?

FutbolMadness,

I believe people are just having some fun - of course, maybe you are too!!!

Everyone is just trying to think of a way THEIR team can "win it all". Fortunately, this isn't a beauty pageant - we "judges" will have no input. The winner will be determined on field. It is a great time of the year for high school sports fans, as all of these SCHSL sports are wrapping up with their respective championships in the next couple of weeks!!!

W&E - I'll have some of what you are having. Here it is tell me how this says I am picking Easley over Dorman. Anyway, good luck this week!!

Dorman - Dorman
Easley

Now if you want to debate the Irmo over Dorman fine. I for sure picked that one.

H66 - if you notice the way I started this thread I said

Here are my girls 4A playoff predictions / "hopes"

The way I picked em Lexington would stay home for all the games. I don't really want to travel to Fort Mill and then Dorman. Do I really think it will happen that way, not really, but hey it could!

Good luck to all the teams and hopefully the best team will win

LF, I have tried to make a joke, but you refuse to play along. I was using sarcasm in declaring you clinically insane to chose Dorman over Easley. The humorous part of my post is that Dorman is a top three team and Easley is not even a top three seed in their region. Sigh...I must try harder next time.

I agree with a Lexington/Wando final. HOWEVER, I'm prediciting Wando will win 1-0. I'm also clinically insane enough to predict Stratford will beat West Ashley! Looking forward to some great soccer! Parents, play nice! :-)

LF,

You really need to read W&E's response to your original post more carefully.

"You've been drinking. No way Easley loses to Dorman... "

I think your old eyes are tricking you . . . he is sarcastically making fun of you for picking Dorman over Easley. This is no fun at all when you have to explain yourself - now is it!!!

05,

Read the thread from the top. My "prediction" was in response to LF taking the easy road to the state championship. I was just having a little fun with my friends from Lex.

Of coures JI is a long shot, your girls from Wando are the prohibitive favorites. Any idea if Jennifer is going to see some quality minutes with the varsity during the state playoffs?

W&E,

Radio High and The Mill will both exhaust themselves in Round 1. Despite their #1 seeds, both will be extremely fortunate to advance past the second round.

Um yall are crazy to have Irmo over Dorman, or anyone over Dorman for that matter. Dorman already beat Irmo in a scrimmage earlier this year, and This Championship is Dorman's to win. I think they could just show up to the games, and still manage to win.

I'm afraid that I have to agree with JM. With #3 (Lexington), #5 (Mauldin), #6 (Fort Mill) and #9 (Spartanburg) all on the other side of the Upper State bracket; Dorman doesn't have to do much more than show up and they are in the Upper State finals. And, after the aforementioned (#3, #5, #6, #9) all beat up on each other, Dorman will merely mail in their ticket to Stone Stadium before they even play some "leftover" from the other side of the bracket.

Ol' "Joe Lawrence" has it made!!!

By the way JM, get your facts straight, Irmo and Dorman TIED in a scrimmage earlier this year. Dorman WON over Irmo 1-0 at the Viking Cup. Also, with a Cavalier by definition being a man (from wikipedia: noun, Cavalier - A military man serving on horse - A gay, sprightly, military man; hence, a gallant), what do the female sports teams at Dorman call themselves?

H66, Yea, I know it was a joke! That's why I put LOL on there. (and maybe get a rise from some J. I. fans ;-) ) Joking aside, Summerville will give us a run for our money. It will be a great game for soccer fans to watch. Jennifer wasn't on varsity when we played Summerville last time. I would expect Jennifer to have some quality minutes. I believe she's proven herself in the opportunities she was given to play with the varsity team. I've not seen her play against the tougher varsity competition, but am looking forward to it. Maybe we'll get to see her play on May 11, Wando vs Ft Mill? Not being that familiar with the upstate, is that such a long shot?

05,

Summerville has been under the radar all year but I still think Wando will walk through the lowerstate. As for the upperstate, there are at least six teams that could make a legitmate case for reaching the final. FM would have to beat at least three of them to get to Stone Stadium.

Good luck!

W&E - Yeah I know you were pulling my chain. I just wanted to see if you would go even further but you didn't..

I'm not that old dealer.

Hurst knows I was looking for the easy way through the playoffs, but I think we all can admit that with the exception of the first round, this is anybodys tournament.

Of course that doesn't go for Dorman because like JM said all Dorman has to do is show up and they go to the finals.

I said it very early in the season after Lexington lost to Dorman in PK's. I won't be surprised if Dorman doesn't even make it to the upperstate finals.

Now the real fun starts. Good luck to everyone...

Lexington-Mauldin has to be the best Wednesday match-up only because both of those heavyweights deserve to be in the Great 8. Unbelievable that they are meeting so early.

Spartanburg-Fort Mill should be a one-goal game. Pick 'em.

Don't really know who will survive the brackets holding FM, Sptg, Lex, and Mauldin—but I do know that whoever takes 4A will deserve it.

Good for SC soccer that 4A holds such a strong group of players, coaches and programs.

Talking with a club coach during fall state championships, and he noted that few people realize how hard it is for young people to step on the field and win when they are SUPPOSED to win. True. Hoping Wed night brings a lot of good soccer for all involved.

There has not been a "SHOCKING" result in the 4A playoffs so far in 2007. Any chance of one happening in the second round? I don't know, I'm not even sure which results would classify as shocking.

I would consider it "SHOCKING" if any upperstate team wins their second round match by MORE THAN 3 GOALS.

I would also consider it "SHOCKING" if all the teams that advance in upperstate are region 2 teams, and all from the lower are region 5. That would be too eerie...

Sorry, had to check the scoreboard for this.

I would also find it shocking if RNE, a team that went winless (0-6)in their region yet advanced to the playoffs by default (Region V had only 4 teams), makes it to the third round.

Hey, they beat Northwestern 3-0, it COULD happen...

Good stuff Coach R.

RNE beat Northwestern 3-0.
Northwestern beat South Aiken 1-0.
South Aiken beat Aiken 2-1.
Aiken beat Irmo 1-0.
Irmo beat Lexington 1-0.
Lexington tied Wando 0-0.

RNE's got a chance!

Boy, there are some good games being played tonight. Some real heavy weights from the upstate going head to head. Too bad that 1/2 of these good teams will be out after the second round. That just doesn't seem right. They should do some sort of a seeding process instead of per region. When you have so many good teams in the same region like region 2 it doesn't seem fair to me. Oh well....
I expect this board will be buzzing like crazy come tonight.

Um yall are crazy to have Irmo over Dorman, or anyone over Dorman for that matter. Dorman already beat Irmo in a scrimmage earlier this year, and This Championship is Dorman's to win. I think they could just show up to the games, and still manage to win.

Either this guy really loves Dorman, or is one of those under cover posters making message board material.

Steve,

If your scenario plays out, we will have had eight different schools competing in the last four 4A girls state championship games. Incredible parity. Great for high school soccer!

You know, Steve may have something here. We played Summerville in the Viking Cup, and even though it was very early in the season, Summerville seemed to be a pretty darn good team from what I can remember. Wando may have their hands full tonight.

Really looking forward to tonight's Fort Mill-Lexington game. Last time they played (FM Invitational) Lex dominated a good bit of the game but couldn't score. FM took over midway thru the second half and had Lexington on its heels at times. Really good game and tonight should be a repeat.

No one on this board is giving Fort Mill any chance at all and its kind of interesting. The Lady Jackets are a very gritty group.....mentally and physically.

They probably don't pound lesser teams the way they should and there aren't many high profile players on the team other than Rachel and Ashleigh....but as a group they will hang and hang and hang with teams that are better on paper....simply by being tough and hardnosed.

I wouldn't want to play them this early in the playoffs, nor would I advise betting against them in a tight game.

Lexington should be favored. I've only seen them play the one time and they looked to me to be a very well coached team with some exceptional players. But.......

To be continued tonight.

Don't know how much you want to read into that first match at Manchester Meadows.

Fort Mill was playing Lex on short rest after a tough game against Lake Norman.
Lexington's best player was playing on one leg.

We'll see tonight.

BD - I don't know about anyone else on this board, but you can bet that no one on Lexington is taking FM lightly. This game is no gimme by any means. We had a tough game against Mauldin Wednesday, and I expect more of the same from FM tonight. Like I said I hope the rain / fields do not affect the game / players.

FT. Mill has an excellent team. This team has a lot more than just Ashleigh and Rachel. They are able to sub in bunches and never lose a beat. Nothing against Lexington as they are quality but Lex better bring their "A" game to beat this powerful bunch. Throw the last time they played out, this is the playoffs man! I like the Mill through the finals.

I think Summerville will prevail tonight as well, even though I am a Wando alum. Wando just does not seem to be able to finish. In the Spring Valley game, almost all of their chances came off of crosses, with mixed results. One resulted in a PK, the other goal was after a deflection and being in the right place at the right time. They also racked up quite a few corner kicks. I didn't see anyone who could take the ball from outside the 18 and get a hard shot off on frame.

On a positive note, they seem to play very well as a team, had several beautiful passing sequences, and communicated very well on defense. It seems they lack a true finisher.

I think if Summerville can score, they will win. Although with the potential for rain who knows. Very similar to last year's game in the wet weather.

Of course FM has more than just the 2 girls!!! But its a blue collar, lunch pail type of team. Few stars.....lots of heart. The upperclassman have provided excellent leadership!!

FM has an excellent group of freshman. There are 5-6 girls that have played key roles this year and several other 9th graders queued up for bigger roles next year.

Rain can sometimes be a great equalizer. Lexington has to overcome a tough match on Wednesday and the long bus ride to Fort Mill. I haven't seen Fort Mill play this year but in years past they were an excellent coached team. Lexington has the players to win but it will be up to attitude and determination. I just wish I could be there to watch. Hurst and dealher will you provide the recap for us with other commitments.

Anybody picking Byrnes to continue the Cinderella story against Irmo?

Wando/Summerville will be a great game as it was the last time they played. Both teams will leave everything they have on the field.
I'm sure both teams hope the "flamboyant" center ref that thinks the game is all about him will be missing this time. Even the sideline refs were rolling their eyes.
Hopefully, the rain will hold out like it did last time.
I am going with the Warriors, 2-0. GO WANDOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!

You'll have to get your game recap from Big Daddy, Real McCoy, Chico and LF. deahler and I will be in the Town Tavern after the match, sharing a few pints and discussing the coulda, shoulda, woulda's.

So far, so good... 2 more BIG games to go hopefully. Another hard physical match tonight. Fort Mill came out hard and trying to intimidate Lexington, but the girls kept their cool and played just as hard.
Like I said at the beginning of this thread....

Upperstate Finals

Irmo
Lexington - Lexington

Lowerstate Finals

Dutch Fork
Wando - Wando

State Championship

Lexington - LEXINGTON WINS IT ALL
Wando

Glad to see some newspapers in South Carolina will cover girl's soccer. Three 4A teams from the Midlands played in quarterfinal matches last night, and not a mention in THE STATE except for the box scores the coaches submitted. If the Gamecocks aren't involved, THE STATE, doesn't think it is important.

Alas...my flea curse backfired and Wando's luck continues ;->

All kidding aside, the P&C got it right; it was a high-quality defensive struggle from start to finish. Neither team's offense could overcome the other's defense.
But even Wando fans should admit there was just a bit of luck involved in that goal, since neither the AR nor the center ref were anywhere near the end line when they made the call, eh?

Baker, You are right, there was some luck involved with that goal! That is what happens when you put a flea curse on the other team - the camels were so offended that they cursed you back!! LOL
All joking aside, Summerville put up a great fight, and Kiah is a heck of a player, of course I have also seen her play for BFA.
If you got a chance to watch Channel 5 News at 11 pm last night it replayed the goal, and it definitely was a goal. Whether the Refs were in position or not, they called it correctly.
See you next week at BFA tryouts!!! Sincerely, Your Flea-infested Wando Fan

I think you're off a bit on your predictions.....

Irmo will win their 2nd game in a row vs LEX
Dutch Fork will win a tight match vs Wando

Yeah, the fact that the Summerville keeper didn't make a big fuss about the call on that goal was our clue that it may have actually gone in.

Of the remaining teams, we've scrimmaged Dutch Fork, played Lexington (lost 2-1), and have now played Wando twice. But now that we're out, I have to side with the Wando fans out there and endorse their predictions to win it all. Go Low Country!

Irmo 2
Lex 2

After 754 minutes of regular and extended time, these two teams are still tied. In the 29th pk, Irmo takes it home by using their recent hot streak and underdog status to rob Lexington of a long overdue and much deserved championship game appearance.

I do not see how a team that was in the title game last year, returns almost all of their starting line-up, adds an All-State player to their roster, defeats last year's champions in this year's play-offs, and then puts three players on the All-State team can be considered an underdog?!?!?

I must say that the Wando v Summerville game was quite entertaining. It was tough pulling for the other "SHS" but a well-played game non-the-less. Anyway, since my prediction of Summerville v Lex is trashed...I'll try to do a little better with the final four.

irmo v lex ...barn burner @lex w/a golden goal in OT to give the Cats a shot at the title on Friday

wando v df...having seen wando play a few times this year and not knowing anything about df (other than they must be pretty good or lucky to get this far) I'm going with Wando 3-0 to set up a Wando v Lex final with the warriors winning it all at USC on Friday. 2-1.
(Regardless the result, congrats to all of these girls for their accomplishments thus far and good luck to all!)

I think after 22 pk's (2 per player), if they are still deadlocked, the coaches should just duke it out for the win. In that contest, I call Mike Mauldin...all the way to STATE!! What say you?

Only one more prediction to go. So far so good, and tonight could not have been any sweeter. For all you Lexington doubters and haters all we can say is we told you so!! Irmo was blown off the field tonight!! They were in the game for maybe the first 20 minutes and then they were holding on for dear life. Once we scored the 3rd goal it was so OVER.

Hope to see everyone out at stone field on Friday. It should be barn burner!!

LF & ClimaCool,

Apparently it was over as soon as that ref gift-wrapped that goal for you last Friday night at FM.

Camo go back to the woods.
I just havn't heard Hurst talk about the game and his thoughts on "the goal". Do you think your keeper had possesion?

tlrcamo,

Nice to see you made it back safely from York County. Sorry that your experience at NW wasn't as much fun as your night at FM. I do admire your passion though, you and your leather-lunged classmates certainly added to the atmosphere.

true,

"The Goal". Sounds like you and some of the Lex supporters think it may have been a bit controversial. Unfortunately, outside of the Lexington goalkeeper, I probably had the worst view in the stadium. It was such a scrum that I don't recall the PA announcer even crediting the individual that knocked it in.

All I know is what I got second-hand, and I'm paraphrasing:

FM Coach (to center ref): Hey what was that? At least talk to the linesman. (Ref consults briefly with AR and then heads to center circle).

FM Coach (to AR): What's going on? What did he say?

AR: I told him your keeper had possession of the ball.

FM Coach: Great!

Center Ref: (Blows whistle).

Lexington 1, Fort Mill 0.

As I said, very hard-fought match...not a pretty match. Some brilliant moments by some of the best players on the field. Shame the field is so narrow, more room would have allowed more creative play. Congrats to the Lady Wildcats.

I might add that even though the game seemed to get out of hand at times, and I'm sure both sides thought the other side was at fault, the FM team is still problaby the best team we have faced both last year and this year.... so far. Too bad that game was not for the upperstate instead of the 3rd round. It had a lot more intensity but to beat Irmo the way we did was very sweet.
BTW: the announcements and music at FM was excellent. The best I have heard from anyone so far, and the decision to keep the fans seperated was a very smart move as well

Thanks LF. Fort Mill - Lexington is a good, healthy rivalry. Good luck at Stone Friday night. Congratulations also to Wando for being the only Girls 4A school to reach the final more than once over the past four years.

i must agree that fort mill gave us a run for our money they played well and were very physical and i agree with LF on that it probably would have been better if it was for upperstate and not 3rd round
