Yet another year of prep soccer gone by means yet another PLC title is up for grabs.

1st-3rd place trophies - sorry..this the best I can do till the "proper funds" are allocated.. ::cough cough:: ::nudge::

Before I waste valuable study time on this thread for the next week or so there are some things that need to be said.

The 06-07 season has been a difficult one for me. Not only did I leave the plush green tundra that is Bowman Field and Clemson University for the sizzling concrete of Columbia and the University of South Carolina.. but I also put in my first season of coaching HS soccer. This step away from being a player and amateur journalist has been a big one and a decision I'd encourage more people my age (but really of ANY age) to make! Not only have I learned more about the game and people/players, but myself as a player and a person.
You think you're too young to coach the youth of today or you don't know enough about the game. Ask someone for help. I was lucky enough to Asst. under Coach Steve Brown (Alan Riches has also been a big help ..and many more) and now I've got a solid foundation under me for what I hope is a long and successful career.

Having said all that - I am removing myself from competition this year. There are many worthy competitors that will easily fill my void. As I've learned this year - there are conflicting interests in everything and it's for the best that we take all the necessary precautions to be as honest and forthright as possible.

Now..to hold you over till the 2007 PLC field of contenders is announced - here are some interesting statistics that I have compiled. Perhaps Chico and the admins can help me out here a bit..

As of today - 4/30/07 -

There are 2,562 posters registered to this forum that are yet to post even ONCE!

There are four posters with more than 1,000 posts:
- laplageauxfolles: 1,273
- benp: 1,299
- Kevin Heise 1,808
- Chico: 1,843

There are four posters with over 2,000 posts:
- 2004Striker: 2,069
- Jack Rozier: 2,463
- Hurst66: 2,520
- Whiskey & Easy: 2,644

And there is one poster (and rightfully so) that has over 3,000 posts:
- Kyle Heise: 3,308

There are 141 posters between 100 & 1,000 posts.

With over 3,500 registered users here..I think these statistics speak volumes about how much this relatively small group (150 people) circulates information throughout the state of South Carolina, some nonsense, but mostly valuable input and ideas.

Lastly, the PLC has been a fun way for me to unwind during exam week for the last few years..as I will treat it the same this year. However, with all the fun and festivity that we partake in over the next two weeks with playoffs and such.. I'd encourage you all to reevaluate just how much you are committed to this sport/state - and how much more you could be. Many of you are coaches, players, refs, but many more of you can be one of these, or both, or all.. ..well..maybe not. God help you if you become a ref!

Keep your eyes peeled..

Perhaps you should recall your past "success" in the PLC before you get too cocky, CF.

PLC 2005
PLC 2006

As for this year..

Due to a belated Y2k glitch - there are no Excel spreadsheets detailing the criteria by which this year's field of competitors was selected.
But as always, the best of scsoccer.com's best are present and it promises to be an eventful tournament.

I will post the bracket tonight so that the various girl's coaches out there will be able to focus on their upcoming playoff games rather than worrying whether they made the field.

The moment you've all been waiting for is at hand..

During an intimate press conference held at Pop's Pizza in Five Points, Columbia the 2007 Poster's League Championship field was announced.

This year's field is considerably smaller than years past. Yes, gas prices and lack of funding/donations has taken its toll on the last bastion of the free world - imaginary messageboard posting titles. But hey, as a generation that's waaaaay old now once said - make do or do without.

Without further adieu - I give you the 2007 PLC tournament field.

As is the nature of time..many prominent posters of the past are present yet again - while many have fallen to the wayside. However, their places have been filled by a new era..a new breed of poster. It truly is an exciting time to be part of scsoccer.com ..really.. can't you feel it.

..woo.

For someone who complains often enough about files you can't read, you would post an inaccessible bracket. Some of our employers feel that the links soccer fans would have us read are detrimental--can the brackets be typed in?

I am all out of breath from running with my cleats and keyboard strapped to my back. Now I see I am not even in the bracket. All of those picked seem to be longwinded, jobless (or soon to be), etc. voice of reason was so longwinded he had to have his own website. Whiskey and Easy shouldn't count since he is really about 10 posters with a different name every month. Whoever said brevity was the soul of wit clearly did not compete in an online message board poster constest.

Now that I have caught my breath I guess I will walk on home...

"She was used to apologizing for her use of language. She had been encouraged to do a lot of that in school. . . .This is because their English teachers would wince and cover their ears and give them flunking grades and so on whenever they failed to speak like English aristocrats before the First World War." If you all are going to wax philosophical by slinging literature at each other.. let's try some Bacon, Newton, Equiano, etc..

I have an Enlightenment exam tomorrow.. and no Stroke - this is not an invitation for you to tell us about your colonoscopy.

First round results will be posted later this evening.

Do you want the good old real bacon you have to fry in a pan or that newer microwave bacon that you can make too hot and hard to eat in 30 secs?

[By the way, the answer on the Enlightenment exam is "Yes."]

How can Corner prepare for his opponent if he/she/it is shrouded in mystery? Is it Michael Jackson, Paula Abdul, or Ricky Bobby?

I think that "Greenville" thread erases all good threads ever posted on scsoccer.com—wow—does it make sense to anyone?

[Notice how I cleverly am trying to hijack this thread by going to a totally unrelated topic—threadjacking.]

I believe the old Goat could not handle the Cola. area merger. I have heard that the old goat had a split in his personality and now speaks thru 3 persons - shut^, Samuel L. Jackson and Chuck Norris.

PLC First Round:

It seems as though it was ages ago that Soccerboy reigned triumphantly over the scsoccer.com community. Yes, the years have not been kind to his posting prowess. Apparently the blood that runs through Irmo alumni is thicker than we think and as one falls - so does the other. In this weakened state, WhatDoesItMatter was able to advance into 2nd round action - though Soccerboy intends to appeal under the clause that, "That's not how we do it in Illinois.."

WhatDoesItMatter will have a tough row to hoe though as he will face yet another past PLC champion in thevoiceofreason. The VOR will be fresh for the contest, being that TheHammer was so focused on Sky Sports updates on West Ham - he barely noticed his PLC defeat.

On the other end of the bracket CornerFlag faced an unprecedented "Mystery Wildcard Poster". Moments before match time a scrawny pole of a boy appeared before the debonair monument of machismo, CornerFlag. It was swanseawinger20!!! The winger immediately began a barrage of rudimentary juggling techniques. Poor CF was caught off guard by this.. ..display of ability? ..that he nearly lost outright. However, the years of dodging the CESA zog machine and experience promoting a dead region pulled CF through and into the 2nd round.

Finishing-up Bracket 1 action was an all girl's affair between LF and purpleandyellow. Yeah, I don't care either. purpleandyellow won.

Returning to Boy's forum action - Facing off at the top of Bracket 2 was the Sultan of Smack, the Pedagog of Pwn, shut^&play versus the ..well.. coldhardtruth. In what will surely go down in PLC history as the most brutal and taxing affair yet - both parties unleashed an unprecedented amount of verbal assaults, conundrums, proofs by absurdity, and various other methods of argument. Battered and broken, PLC veteran shut^&play advanced to the 2nd round.

The match between 2004Striker (affectionately known by his fans and antagonists as "Stroke") and Hurst66 was one of the more bizarre occurrences since the inception of the Poster's League. As usual, Stroke was accompanied to his match-up by his posse of inbred thugs with DNA more twisted than this file photo of Stroke in his prime.

Anticipating this move, Hurst brought along various members of the Lady Jackets soccer team. Left with no defense, poor old Stroke was overcome by Hurst's relentless posting ability. The PLC has received word that Stroke is doing well and will make a full recovery - in fact, he's reading up on obscure soccer articles from across the country as this is being posted.

Eager to reclaim his dignity after last year's episode with performance enhancers, prolific poster Chico was met by posting nobody - Coach Roseberry. Though many predicted Chico would runaway with the victory - Coach Roseberry's obscurity worked to his advantage and ultimately secured the upset victory. The linchpin of Chico's posting is his ability to compile obscure statistics and make substantial claims based on these facts and figures. Well, no one (let alone Chico) even knows where Westside is - or that they exist. Resulting in one of the most monumental collapses of recent memory.

Rounding out 1st round action and facing Coach Roseberry will be scsoccer.com pariah - Whiskey & Easy. Also facing PLC newcomer - oppressed emotions - W&E delivered accordingly vanquishing OE in a lopsided affair. While a downtrodden Anderson community celebrated the win - PLC officials have informed the W&E camp that there are "points of inquiry" that are being investigated regarding the events of the match.

Don't know where else this might fit—BUT

Just saw in a recent SPORTS ILLUSTRATED:

SI hired Kurt Vonnegut in the early 1950s; he confessed to having NO knowledge of or concern for sports. First assignment was to write a headline for a story about a race horse who had broken free of the race and jumped a fence. KV wrote "The horse jumped the [expletive deleted] fence." He promptly walked out of the office and never returned.

It's all about Karma Jack.

I knew that you were trying to throw a first round curve to me, and not knowing who it would be, I chose to use an avatar that could counter even the most strongest adversary. That's right. Officer Poncherello. But today, I knew that his magic had run it's course so I decided to get another one. To be honest, I was going to go with Adrian Zmed (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0957460/), but I thought that another 70's, dark hair, ultra good looking, TV cop was not going to do it two times in a row. So, at lunch today as I was eating my barbeque (with mac and cheese and sweet potato crunch), I looked to my right and noticed a rather (very) large man eating at the table beside me. Then it hit me. Why not stay in the 70's and bring back that symbol of wierdness and annoyance, Fred Berry AKA Rerun from that really bad 70's show What's Happening. He would give me the Karma to defeat the sinister Yellow and Purple (his real name), and would propel me into the next round fully prepared for my next opponent.

Karma Jack, it's all about Karma.

Look..that's great and all, but you old guys need to realize it's 2007. This isn't the PLC Senior Tour - this is the real thing. It's good to go with your strength, but 70's sitcoms will only get you so far - karma or not.

Based on LeDude's posting decline (and the apparent reason for eliminating all decent posters from competition) I could draw some astonishing correlations. Chico would have to provide the hard data, however, at face value I see these conclusions.

1. There is a strong inverse relationship between coaching experience and posting ability. I would not be surprised at an r value lower than -0.8.
2. I was tempted to say the same inverse relationship exists between education and posting ability as Ledude's advancement in college seems to indicate. However, that would lead to the conclusion that high schoolers have the best posting ability. Since this is clearly not the case, there must be some curve or cyclical relationship. High schoolers have low posting ability, early college students seem to reach a relative maximum, late college drops down. Perhaps post graduate rises some and parents of young children. Once the children start playing soccer, the parental posting ability drops dramatically, and then some of the old people with nothing left in their lives but the message board often show some sparks of wisdom and wit (though tainted with pessimism and grouchiness--the "dark side" of posting). The function relating posting ability to education/age is a complicated one.

Yeah..whatever he said! Take that Jackson.......

What insanity has befallen you? Did the change in schools from CU to USC have a profound affect on your semi-rational
state? Was it the change from breathing the rarified cow-air of the up-your-country college; to the aroma or stench of the big city and its gangs, homeless and bleach-blonde yankee USC coeds? How else can it be explained that:
1)Coach Rosebush takes out the Great Chico in the 1st rd?
2)I lose to a Pattie?
3)kickman, Chico wannabe, does not even make the 1st rd.?
4)shutoff defeats the truth? "YOU can't stand the truth"~(the real Jack)
5)The winger from the vacation mecca of SC is ousted by a flag?
6)I lose to a Pattie?

I have, officially on this date, sent a protest to the SCHSL, the Committee of Eight-SCYSA, the NCAA, the NFL, the Sons of the Confederacy, the AFL-CIO, CBS and MSNBC, the SPCA, and your Enlightenment professor to order that the 2007 PLC cease and desist, and be hereby declared null and void.
Sorry bout that.

..look, I told you, it's all about budget cuts. If you guys weren't so preoccupied with your various all-star events for "soccer players" we could have a first rate PLC, but no.

kickman - You are the Doug Flutie of scsoccer.com.

Budget Cuts? Thats a cheap excuse.........
What do budget cuts have to do with it? And what do WE have to do with all-star events? I believe the problem here is too much exam caffiene. We will just wait, til you come down from exams........
but we will expect much better treatment and excuses then.

I am very familiar with Doug Flutie. First of all, I believe I am probably slightly above average height among scsoccer.com posters. Secondly, my best years are still ahead of me (which I will swear to till my dying day). Thirdly, I will never be well known in Canada for my "Grey Cup" Victories (not referring to the contents of the PLC). However, there is a certain attraction in becoming the first posting analyst after my retirement. I am not sure if I would go the Howard Cosell boxing route sounding like an auctioneer ("There's a left jab by the stroke and p&y goes down; wait, he's getting back up...) or the golf voice of Brent Musburger ("An excellent point by Chapindad, we will wait to see how Chico responds to the pressure..."), or the excited voice of Madden ("You see, that's just what I'm talking about--Ledude is able to get the PLC going but he just wasn't able to finish.) No matter what, I will not be a Doug Flutie ("Yes, I'm here...)

(By the way, are ya'll able to here the voices in my head that make this post make sense?)

Since the SCYSA and SCHSL have ruled the PLC as null and void........a new Cup was sanctioned.......and sponsored by CESA with a $15 donation by an unknown CESA fan. The $15 was used at Todd & Moore to purchase a REAL CUP for the true Champion and Wizard of all that is soccer...
CHICO!
THE NEW CUP is hereby filled and christened with ice cold Busch beer and will be named is his honor.
THE CHICO CUP!

purple as least you made the final v. Chico. I took the liberty to alter your screen name to purplehaze (it has a certain ring to it) so as to disguise it from Jackson.

LUCKILY - Stroke's Bush League isn't the real deal, no matter what sanction he has imagined. There is only ONE Poster's League Championship.

No, soccerboy, I did not mistakenly refer to you. It was actually a first time female poster, soccergirl, who disposed of shutdown.

Since the PLC has lost its luster, its ability to attract quality posters and possesses no financial support, (i.e. fancy Cup); the SCYSA Committee of Eight and the SCHSL has granted Cup status to the new 'Chico Cup.' In future years this Chico Cup will have a high defintion digitized bracket, complete with colorful pies and charts. This Cup will also analyze each poster by the process of an "online statistical computing center" providing access to over 50 applets in which you can enter data, compute statistics, create tables and graphs, and print out the results. Provides basic plotting, probability distributions, summary statistics, one-sample analysis, time-series analysis, two-sample comparisons, regression analysis, attribute estimates, ANOVAs, and Statistical Process Control.
This process will result in the selection of a true poster Champion, and not some haphazard, biased pick as was the case with the old PLC.

Chico has been stripped of his Chico Cup championship title because he failed to recognize that he won. It has been rumored that Jack (alias LEDudeman), attempting revenge at yours truly for banishing his little PLC, enticed Chico with an all-inclusive trip to and stay at Holiday Inn-Lugoff. Since Chico has either accepted this offer, or has died from tainted dog food; the new Declared winner of the Much Improved and More Better Cup is purplehaze (formerly purpleandyellow). Once he has properly accepted ownership of the Cup, a new and Much Improved title will be given to the Cup.

OK, then....another poster has been stripped of his Cup title. Purplehaze has not acknowledged his new title.....so.......I give up. Thats why soccer has a bad name among the media types like Jim Rome, Teddy Hepfer and Rush Limbaugh. Too much apathy out there........
So....... whoever wants the Cup title can claim it......
I should never have tried to mess with LEDudeman's game.

Hey, Stroke...if you've got a sippy cup available, W&E (AKA Floriday, of course) could probably get some use out of it! That's a cutie in that previous post, but could it possibly a pic of his REAL kid, or is it somebody's file photo from myspace? Though I've never actually seen "the Man, the Myth, the Legend", anybody named W&E can't really have a kid THAT cute, can he??

Wait, you mean I'm out. Come on? I eliminated Chico namely on my obscurity, lack of incoherent posts, and inability to be intimidated by posters with far superior logistical representation.

Plus, I own an original NES that I used to LET W&E play.

Sure, his kid is good looking, he says lots of stuff, pretty much single-handedly fosters all meaningful and non-meaningful soccer related threads throughout all forums, won back to back region titles, is North/South Coach, once stole Rambo's wallet, dated a supermodel on a bet, and bested Noah in slaps back BC 3,465, but that's all he's got! That's all he's got!!!

Nothing is over! Nothing!

Or, if it already is, then I could probably just jack the cup from his mailbox before he gets home...

Either way, it's cool.

OK then its done. My little subterfuge or hijacking of Jack's (formerly LEdudeman's) PLC has worked just a bit.
Bad Whiskey&Easy or Floriday or Coach Rosebush or maroonandgold (formerly purpleandyellow and purplehaze)...all of you can enjoy the Sipper Cup if you all just follow these instructions:
1) Copy and paste the picture of the John Deere Sipper Cup to a Word document.
2) Make three or more copies of said John Deere Sipper Cup.
3) Give each one of you a copy.
4) Glue your copy around your favorite beer can, glass or cup.
5) If glue does not stick, then just put the copy around the can, etc. with a rubber band.
6) Fill the can, etc. with your favorite beverage and enjoy your Championship.
Now.........its back to Jack.

Maroon, Florida & Coach Rosebush were spotted sipping on their brand spanking New Championship Sipper Cups, before the NW-Mauldin game in Greenville. They were overheard to say that no subtropical female would keep them from a game of soccer.

Socastee has not played a team near the caliber of Greenville this year, so I think its a 3, 4 goal win for the Red Raiders.
SV will have a tough time w/o their Keep (who cannot/should not prevail with an appeal). They may have to play a defensive game to stay close, but it will still be at least a 2 goal NW win.

But I am a NY Yankees-hater, a Clemson Tigers-hater and a NW fans-hater, so.... GO VIKINGS!!

I'll def take NW's spread.

I wouldn't underestimate Socastee again. They may not play the same quality as G-ville, but after their 2005 result against Eastside (without their starting keeper) I'll hold off on another blowout prediction.

I haven't seen either side this year, but if shut^'s assessment of Socastee is accurate, they may just have the formula to compete with G-ville. A three man attack with speed - get some shots on an untested keeper - and leave everyone else back to hold down the fort.

So glad to see that my idea to offer a sippy cup for the Champion was put to use, HOWEVER....I really intended for the CHILD to use it (for milk), not the big boys (for suds)!! Do you guys have to start out with them, or do you wait and switch to the sippy cups, after the floor starts to tilt, and you're spilling more than you are drinking?!?
Maybe we could get special BIBS to match the cups for next year's PLC, and then you wouldn't chance spoiling your lovely clothing ensembles??....

Greenville has the best defense I have seen all year. You can get a shot in now and then, but you better make it count and then put an extra body on Sebastian.

Personally, while NW can put up big numbers, I'll take Greenville for the larger spread.

What's the Vegas line anyway?

As an alum of SV, gotta agree and say...GO VIKINGS!! But as my Dad would always say...."I'm rooting for SV to win by 2, but I think NW has the advantage in players and field size." Either way, I'm right!?!
Greenville blows by Socastee 4-1 (Soc. is still tired from ripping down signs, but have just enough muscle left to score one goal! ).
