See the posting on the Georgia Soccer Forum. Interesting. What is the typical HS soccer booster club fee for soccer in SC?

Kids don't "pay to play" high school soccer in our district.

I think MS soccer is a great idea under the right circumstances.

Lil' Daddy played school basketball last year....and I'd guesstimate that they cut at least 1/2 the kids who tried out. Probably more 60% got cut.

When school soccer programs start approaching that rarified air....where you are cutting half the kids trying to play varsity or JV soccer....then its time to put a middle school program in place, so that you encourage more kids to keep playing soccer.

But when your "washout" of the varsity/jv process is a handful of kids....middle school IMO ceases to be a need and in fact, weakens development by over-diluting the player pool. Not to mention the coaching pool.

Kids SHOULDN'T pay to play. Isn't that Club? I know a ton of kids who QUIT playing soccer at 8-10 becasue of the expense. As soon as you start charging.....your going to lose a segment of your player pool. We end up penalizing kids becasue their parents can't or won't pay for soemthing.

If the district can't afford it all....then trim back on what you offer. Ala.....middle school stuff. When I was in 6th-8th grade we had football and volleyball in the fall, basketball in the winter, and track in the spring.

Thats it. Maybe thats what we need to go back to.

Hey!!!! wait minute!!! I thought one of the reasons american football is considered the elite HS sport is because it pays for all the other sports????

In fact, now that I think about it why am I paying a HS participation fee??? it should be free

Have fun in Cola...I'm stuck working the clock at a b-ball game...can't wait for the first real practice on Monday when I have an excuse to focus on nothing but soccer for a while!

Change it...you mean the home team isn't supposed to automatically get the ball every time?

As a sidenote, working the basketball clock reminds me of one of my favorite things about soccer...no timeouts and a running clock!

Curious as to how many states have pay-to-play scenarios???
