Merging with Celtic and offering training in Savannah. Is this true? or just some rumor flying around on GA forums?

A small club from Savannah in their 2nd or 3rd year. started by a former CGSA coach that was let go for punching another coach. From what I understand GYSA currently does not recoginize the Celtic select teams...don't know why. Celtic does offer a good option for those players which do not make a "top" CGSA team or are just frustrated with the CGSA system. Honestly, I can not see why Bridge would want merge with the Celtic other than to possibly offer local training for the Bridge players from Savannah. I can undestand the Celtic position, if GYSA truely does not recognize their select teams the merger could bring instant credibility.

BFA is not merging with Savannah Celtic. Celtic approached us as other clubs have in the past to help with their elite programs and players in a consultant capacity. No merger was ever discussed, only a potential sharing of resources to benefit the kids in the Savannah area.

BFA announced yesterday that CESA was awarded the SSC club mgt contract.

BFA also announced they will continue to field competitive soccer teams. They are finalizing plans for field usage agreements. Will continue to offer US Dev Academy teams for U16 &18 boys. Will offer premier & challenge level U13-U18. Exploring adding additional programs for boys & girls.

Tryouts dates will be posted next week.

And what is a "club management contract?"

Second question: so "Bridge" is no longer an alliance program but an independent and competitive soccer program that competes for players with SSC?

Good questions. No other details were given other than those in my previous post. At this time, there is nothing on the websites for CESA, SSC nor BFA.

Looking forward to hearing how SSC/CESA and BFA are moving forward.

Over the last couple of years, the exploring of additional programs is what really set Bridge and SSC at odds, i.e. the bridge academy program below U13. So in essence, for some time now, many have felt it hasn't been an alliance at all.

CESA is not people

The perception in the lowcountry, Bridge is Clark, and CESA is Pearse and Andrew. So for many, it's not about organizational programs and affiliations, but rather it boils down to personal affiliations with people.

I still think MPSC is the wild card in all of this. They have the field space for Bridge. MPSC has the numbers to feed Bridge teams. MPSC has not been able to attract the elite olders players to their club. They have been playing at Bridge or CESA. I'm not saying it will happen, but an alliance with MPSC may be in the works.

Understandably there was doubt of the CESA/SSC connection.

The use of Clark's name was to add credit to the post that CESA was awarded the club contract with SSC.

Lowcountry,
Two questions: Isn't there animosity between the two power structures at MPSC and Bridge.

Second, doesn't the town of Mt. Pleasant have some say in this and how does their role impact this decision?

I do think there has been and may be some animosity at the top levels of these two clubs. I also think MPSC is aware that they have been losing their elite palyers. MPSC has lost its swagger in the challange and premier leagues.

Regarding #2, I don't know.

Question: For several years now, people have taken potshots at MPSC for not joining Bridge. What would be different now that would lead to an alliance? Specifically, what would Bridge now offer that it couldn't or didn't offer before -- or what would MPSC see as the advantage that wasn't there before?

I decided to start posting because I've heard from a few folks in the Lowcountry that MPSC was having really positive talks with BFA but the MP Rec. Dept. makes the big decisions and squashed it all. Then MPRD's soccer person (Christi) is in the resignation process of her position. Then CESA gets this Summerville gig, Now, folks say today there is chatter about the MPSC DOC (Aven) being in line with CESA's gig down there or even leaving MPSC to join.

Except for the last point, all the other rumors became facts. Why not the last one? Does all this tie in? Or, are there talks with MPSC and CESA, instead of BFA? All this seems too coincidental to not be related. Is anyone in the Lowcountry closer to the situation down there to follow-up these tidbits?

I know nothing about the talks, but as some people have mentioned, MPSC is a facet of the Mount Pleasant Recreation Department and therefore of the Town of Mount Pleasant. Regardless of whether or not Christi or Jeremy or anyone else in Mt. P want to join BFA or make any sort of arrangement, the final call is up to the Town and whoever in the hierarchy of the government is there to make that decision. As with any government, no one is going to okay a loss of potential revenue without serious pulling of teeth. Right now, the fields and fees all belong to Mt. P and its coaches, the Piggly Wiggly and Classic tournaments in the fall and winter belong to Mt. P along with all the revenue they bring into the area through the teams staying at hotels, sightseeing, and eating at restaurants. Now, granted, all of that involves a lot of bureaucracy and paperwork and legwork, but any time you see $$ in a government, people tend to get slap-happy.

Along with that, MPSC has one heck of a U11 girls elite team right now and I'm not sure about the boys side, so there may be hopes that the player pool is turning around and people may be less willing to join or ally with another club if things could turn around.

The way I see it, MPSC soccer on the challenge side would probably have to hit total rock bottom (so that it's incredibly visible to the bureaucrats) and an alliance with BFA would have to include one hell of a financial and recognizable benefit to the Town of Mount Pleasant (getting them the same or more fiscal gain) before they would be willing to part with any part of their programs.

Unfortunately, the risk of working with a government is that even if you have local heads whose main interest is the children, the further up you travel the totem pole, the less concern they have for the quality of soccer and the players.

"The South Youth Soccer Association board has advised that the error in the new logo is a honest mistake. However due to the costs associated with making the correction, it will leave as is.

The new logo sports the letters SCESA. Apparently the error was introduced by the printer whose children play in the local club and was unaware that it had a Y in lieu of an E"

On the NC soccer forum there has been some interesting chatter that their beach clubs are getting together to form a US Club based alliance that will petition USSF for an Academy program. Participating clubs are Cape Fear, Port City and I think OCSA from NC.....and also Coast FA from SC.

Now, given that NC already has 4 Academy programs no one is giving them much of a chance. But is it possible that USSF would slide the Bridge slot up the coast a few hours if Bridge struggles organizationally?

How have their Academy teams done?

Big Daddy,

Currently the U16's are 2nd in the Atlantic conference to CASL, 12-1-2. CASL has 3 games in hand with Bridge at 12-4-2.

Currently the U18's are 6 of 8 in the Atlantic conference.

Play is on break until May.

Cool...actually, pretty darned good performance even with the 18's. Bridge is kind of the Green Bay of this thing, from a population perspective. I'm sure their player pool is considerably smaller.

I was just on the BFA website and noticed they are offcering teams at the U10-U12 level. I guess they can do this know that their ties with SSC are cut.

I'm told they have an agreement with Charleston Southern University to use some of their field space and the North Charleston Rec. Department has some new fields that will be used.
