Shouldn't it be "jibber jabber"? I've never heard "gabber" before. Is it french?

And why the hyphen in the title, but none in the subject. is a little consistency too much to ask?

gab (gab)
intr.v. gabbed, gab·bing, gabs
To talk idly or incessantly, as about trivial matters.

n. Idle talk; chatter.

[Middle English gabben, to scoff, speak foolishly, from Old Norse gabba, to scoff.]

gab'ber n.

So, a "gabber" would be someone who speaks constantly and idly about trivial matters; "gabbing" would be talking incessantly about nothing of substance. Ex: "We're all sitting around gabbing instead of working here."

Or: "Don't hate the gabber. Hate the gab."

Then there's "jibber," which is more properly spelled with a soft g as "gibber"...

gib·ber (jib'ər)
intr.v. gib·bered, gib·ber·ing, gib·bers
To prattle and chatter unintelligibly.

n. Unintelligible or foolish talk.

[Probably back-formation from gibberish.]

So, "gibber gabber" would be talking incessantly and foolishly about trivial things.

Y'know, like people hijacking threads and petty stuff like that.

coach j,
what is scarier than a spiderpig, and the most potentially harmful terror on this planet, even more frightful than Al-Queda terrorists or Howard Dean or Hillary or Donald Trump or even the lowly meemur is the.............trapdoor spider-

They are building millions of trap doors all over the world to take down all humankind.

You all may scoff at my WARNING about trapdoor spiders. But here is proof! The spiders have started with the wives of soccer players. A trapdoor spider bit Mrs. Beckham in his futile attempt to drag her down a trap door hole. She got away..........this time-

http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=h...l%3Den%26sa%3DN

But what the story does not say is that Vicki was saved by Beckham himself, when he direct free-kicked the spider off of her arm before she could be dragged to the hole.

What is important is the WARNING to all soccer players and coaches (even high school coaches) who have hot wives/girlfriends, that these spiders are taking them first.
So all of you hot chick soccer wives/girlfriends need to become familar with what these tricky trap doors look like when you are out on the pitch or even in your backyard-

An important distinction should be made, however...
Are these your garden variety, run-of-the-mill trapdoor spiders which survive by eating meat...
or are they some hybrid, silicone-seeking variety?

That is a good point to consider.............but looking at these guys, I think they go after both silicone and meat-

I was just thinking that the VAST majority of us (perhaps even ALL of us on this site) have no silicone in our homes, and thus would be safe...unlike the Beckhams

Another excellent point, but we have no knowledge of the prevalence of silicone among the other wives of professional soccer players, as well among the wives/girlfriends of even our local high school/college coaches and players. Since this group of females is obviously gonna be the first to be attacked, it would probably just be wise to keep our distant from that group. I am sure that we will soon see an advisory from DHEC.

mccoy,
No. It is my understanding that the spiders are attracted only to the wives/girlfriends of soccer players/coaches. I think that once they got a taste of Victoria, that it became a sorta vampire thing.

The Brazilian Wandering Spider is a not too distant cousin of the Trapdoor Spider, and in addition to normal flesh it enjoys the kind of bananas popular with the soccer crowd. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/ar...in_page_id=1770

Nonsense about spiders? Nonsense? Surely you jest? Its a very real concern. Look what happened to Posh Spice!
But.......mccoy is hereby officially censured and shown the Red Card for his innuendo.

But....as for the rest of it....its all verifiable, albeit scary public information for the good of our citizens.

I'm ok...at the last minute, the spider realized that hijacking a thread about hijacking was actually ON topic, and it spit me out.

Now STINKING spiders, Cantona...that's another issue. Related to barking spiders, I understand.

I said nothing derogatory about his actual wife. The Cantona I am refering to is the washed up French soccer player, Cantona.

What a guy! Good to see him back in action.

hearst,
If Dr. Mccoy is juggling such diverse situations, I do not know if I would want to be a patient. He may get confused and treat simple pink-eye with an anti-venom injection.

Dr. McCoy dabbles in more serious stuff than pink-eye.

If one of your players runs into a goal post, and cuts a cartoid or a jugular.....you want Dr. McCoy present!

hearst,
What if the carotid or jugular is cut, exposed and sorta hanging out on the pitch, what might be the good doctor's reaction, if at that same moment of the stated injury he was distracted by this senseless banter on the message board?
What would be his choice? 1) Grab his laptop, and type a reply to yet another senseless comment or 2) Stuff the carotid or jugular back in the body and give the kid a pat on the back, and tell him he could go back in at the next stoppage.

coach,
What is the significance of reaching 11 pages?

Works pretty well, actually...mine know the story behind it, and a lot of times a laugh is what it takes to get them back on their feet...

Gotta allow for adaptation, though...the second one will inevitably think she's got it figured out...

"Are ya hurt, or are ya injured?"

"This time I'm injured, coach!"

"Well, then, ya ain't hurt...get up!"

In response to those who have expressed concern about the quality of soccer posts on the girls' side of the boards, I will attempt to bring this forum up to the quality of soccer analysis found on the boys' side.

We r awsome cuz I have ring and u r suck.

And my mama cn beat up ur mama.

Blythwood.

Feel better?

We now return you to our regularly scheduled program: Trapdoor spiders: Threat or security measure?

coach,
In response to yo latter comment, you may want to know that our crack Homeland Security Agency has raised the threat level color to spider black.
Also.......I posted the following in another thread to supasta who did has da ring and was go fo' shizzle on Blythwould. Dis post may hep improve the post quality up to dat of da boys side of tings:
Firstly, 4-1 over hapless Clover? Any other team would have made it 14-1. Secondly, RNE a well-known 4-A powerhouse? Did you really type that, cause it ain't well-known (except in Dentsville), and the Gamecocks will win an NCAA football title before RNE will ever be considered a powerhouse.
Thirdly, 3A championship title? You meant in HS football, right? (Unless they get banned again). Lastly, you refer your arguments that you can't handle to a woman? Do you mistake this soccer forum for a Ben Lippen classroom? I know a few of us in the forum did gradjeeated from Lugoff-Elgin, but we didn't just gadjeeight last night.
With these kind of comments, my dear friend (as the late John McCain once said), you will be in bench status until Lower Richland again wins a conference game.

Ok, so back to a soccer issue...

A player is not considered offsides unless she is in the field of play...

So if a trapdoor spider waits UNDER the field by the goal, then pops up behind the defense after the through pass...would it be considered offsides?

I figure if we're going to be infested, I might as well recruit.

Just curious...

If one of these infamous trapdoor spiders just so happens to find itself in close proximity to, let's say, a goalkeeper--does said goalkeeper reserve the right to step on (or otherwise squish) it? ...I'd like to see what SC refs have to say about that!

Coach Chass,
Of course the trapdoor spider would be in an offside position, attempting to gain an advantage. And assuming that the linesman has decent eyesight, he would raise his flag for offside.

BHS,
As a ref, I would caution the keeper and show him a Yellow Card for unsporting behavior, since the spiders were already there living in their own holes. However, given what the spider did (way back in page 5) to Posh Spice, it is doubtful that the keeper would survive the attack and would be dragged down the hole. There would then be an injury timeout, and a keeper change made.

I understand there is a rule in the SCHSL manual against this type of abuse by a player... Apparently the offending player is not only banned for the remainder of the game but for a month as well, unless of course he disappears into the spider hole at which point is play on!!!

futbol,
You are right, the ref could allow 'play on', even if the 1st Keeper is dragged down the hole. But at the sight of this spider dragging a player down a hole, I do not think anyone would want to 'play on' at that moment. So its gonna be a goal kick for the opposing team.

Next question is, would the coach be allowed to send in a substitute if the original keeper never actually came off the field?

Coach,
Good question; and yes he could.
Under Spider Rule 34-1(b):
If the original Keeper ceases to touch the pitch due to the routine spider-drag down the hole, that Keeper is considered a routine injury victim, and a Keeper change is allowed.

Hmm...well, if I can't invoke the "below the pitch doesn't count as in-bounds" clause, perhaps the trapdoor spiders would be better use on defense...a little "surprise sweeper" might be effective.

Besides, I have a couple of spider monkeys trying out for forward...they're pretty aggressive.

Well.....this is what I am looking for! I am going to recurit 4 trapdoor spiders and align them along the penalty box and have them lie in wait for that lone striker and BAM! No goal no Striker and we have the ball. This will no doubt cause long distance shooting and fear amoung my opponents! Look out. What do you think striker, sound good?

No, seriously. I'm sitting on my couch typing on my laptop and looking at a very susupicious discolored patch of dirt outside my front door. I could take a chance and go outside...but I don't think that's best.

I'd recommend an elite squad of spider monkeys, trained in cave infiltration and Search and Destroy.

Nothing like a specialist to handle a tricky problem.

Hey, W&E, I have been called worse, and are certain you have. Get back to your guys jibber jabber stuff... let's stay away from reality.

Red card away my boys.

I need to get a hold of the trap door spider guy to send an army after you.

Now that is a good job. No ridiculous criticisms of a coach that is twice the man you are. Well done and good post!

Spider monkeys didn't work in Chapin. We had to call in the military!
