Well the big game is on Friday at Northwestern. What are everyone's thoughts on this game? I haven't seen Spring Valley yet so I know nothing about them but it is going to be a GREAT game! I know I will be there!

I say Northwestern wins it 3-2. Being on their home field is a great advantage because of its size and atmosphere.

Should be a pretty tough two game stretch for Spring Valley...@ Northwester, then at home against Irmo. I see that they play @ Irmo the next week, as well. Whoever made that schedule must have been on something...haha.

Sparing Valley will win as long as they shut down that Enzo kid. I mean he's not good or anything...

I haven't seen SV this year either, but I'm sure they will do extremely well in this game. It's too close to call a winner for this one. Can't wait until Friday.

SV players and fans do not need to let the obnoxious NW fans get to them. Just need to play soccer guys and don't get tossed.

2004striker, that is what makes these games brilliant. It is games like these where we see who is mentally tough and who is not. We will see if SV can keep their heads in the game and just play.

Missing Parker Arnold's going to hurt SV tremendously. That said, I think SV pulls this one out, they beat a much better NHS team last year.

Spring Valley’s backs might be good enough to jam Enzo and keep him outside. What I don’t think they will be able to do is keep him from doing dangerous things with the ball, especially deep. I think he’ll welcome assists as much as goals but my question is: who is the go to guy when the ball is delivered? I pick NW 2, SV 1, - no goals but 2 assists for Enzo.

I didn't do it, but if I had you never would have known.

Zack and Robbie will probably be back at all times but Alex, Jeremy Dobbins, and Ricardo Garbonzo are the targets Enzo will be looking for.

Will Spring Valley be allowed to travel that close to state lines?

i think that valley will take the game, they are definalty the stronger team. NW lost 2 chapin when they were missing their best player.(no slight 2 chapin they are a top 3a state champ contender), but NW should have taken it to them. btw valley has a really strong offense. they may outscore NW lol.

u cats r missing the point. nhs is more than enzo. there are 6 other premier level players on the roster, count em 6. is enzo a great player, absolutely. is he all nhs has, not by a long shot. some of u seem to hold it against nhs that he plays for nhs. well, deal with it, or him. who wouldn't like to have him on their team? right, u would all love for him to b wearing your colors. last time i checked nhs was pretty good before he got there, with 2 finals appearances and 1 semifinal appearance before he arrived. trojans 2 valley 1

Even though SV has won their games so far they have several banged-up players playing at less than 100%. If SV keeps NW to 1 or 2 goals then it has a chance to win.

Hmm well earlier I believed that it will be SV win 2-1 and I still believe that. Everyone has had to play down players before due to injuries. RNE had to play Airport missing 5 starters. It's a debatable situation I do know for sure that Valley will be hurt badly because they are missing Parker Arnold and others, but im not sure that it will be their downfall. Either way it goes I think it will be very close and a excellent game to watch.

I also think Northwestern wins. Playing on their home field and with their fans is one of the biggest advantages in the state. It will be a close game with TONS of emotion, but I see Northwestern winning with a big game from some "role players".

I do believe the pressure is on SV for the Win, as Northwestern has nothing to lose, but everything to win. It will be a tough game for both, with Northwestern actually having the upper hand with playing at home.

i think sv will take it bc they have 3 really talented forwards, while NW has only 1 outstanding one. sv also has a better defense than NW who seemed a little inexperienced in the back, and lacking composure. SV bc of more scoring variability and more experience in the back and the big games

ehs 1 u said sv has a better defense. sv has given up 14 goals and nhs 9. by my public math that means nhs has given up 5 fewer goals a game, two of which occured when one of their center backs went out v fort mill and the score was 7-1. mill scored 2 while he was out. nhs 2 center backs are odp players and on the dsc 2 time defending state champs, but i guess that experience counts for nothing. nhs will show up and play. will u? too close to call for me.

Northwestern's defense is overall very stout. They have a senior captain and, as wolfgang said, two player from the DSC state championship team. They definitely have experience back there. One of the players is also one of the captains for Northwestern and, in my opinion, the one of the best defenders is state as a junior.

It will be very tough stopping SV and I am looking forward to seeing a great match-up!

lots of talk earlier in the year and in years past about northwesterns "weak schedule". did anyone happen to notice that four teams, count em 4, from that region have been ranked in the top 15, nd currently 3 r ranked? what a weak region.... funny how noone is talking about the trojans weak schedule now...go figure

That is because usually people only talk about a weak schedule when the team has one... I believe this is a watered down NW side however, they have some great players, but no where near the caliber of years past. If NW was in some of the midland regions they would have trouble winning a region title.... but taking into account their weaker team and other teams improvments I don't think anyone thinks they have weak schedule.

Supasta, what is your opinion of the talent overall this year in terms of teams and players? Does it compare to the few past years when teams such as Eastside, South Aiken, Irmo, Northwestern, etc. were stocked with talent or do you believe everything is watered down or is it just not fair to compare? Anyone feel free to put your opinions up.

I have not seen enough teams play this year to make a fair judgment on whether or not the entire league is watered down. I have seen NW play however and they are a shell of the 06/07 teams. This is not to say they do not have talent, but I think this years squad would get spanked by past NW squads.

I think a lot depends on how quickly SV adapts to the loss of two of its players. They are having to reshuffle their line-up to compensate and it may take a while to get accustomed to the revised line-up. They didn't respond well to a fiesty Dutch Fork team on Friday.

The SV player seemed to be fine. It looked like a minor injury.

A very good game. Northwestern controlled the first half and Spring Valley controlled the second half. Northwestern had an easy opportunity to score in the second half. Alex dribbled beautifully across the middle and played a perfect through ball to Enzo's feet one-on-one with the keeper, but Enzo shanked it over. They also had two more balls that were in front of the mouth of the goal and the keeper out of position, but could not get them in.

Spring Valley is a good team but I don't understand why everyone is thinking they are the most balanced/best team in state. They have several weak spots. I believe they are around the same caliber as Northwestern.

Northwestern was the smaller team but played way more physical. They went hard into every tackle and played aggressively. I thought I would see that out of SV instead.

A very good job by Spring Valley. Unlucky for Northwestern.

How can you say that spring valley isn't the best team? theyve played one of the hardest schedules and haven't lost a game when every other team has lost multiple games. That sounds like the best in my book

They are one of the best teams but they are capable of being beaten. As of now, sure they are the best but I don't understand why a lot of people put them on a pedestal as if they are way better than everyone else when really they are not.

I guess I should of worded that differently. Right now they are the best but I do not believe they will be the best come state championship.

I know what you mean about SV not looking awesome. I have seen a number of their games this season and they make a lot of unforced turnovers and make a lot of bad passes. They just find a way to win. It isn't always pretty but it gets the job done. I don't beleive its luck, it has happened much too often this season.

State will be tough for them with player losses and injuries but they have some intangibles going for them.

Northwestern and Spring Valley will rematch in the state championship. PK's are always a toss up so I would not look much into this game.

Antoine did not play. I saw him in the stands though.

And they could of used him. He would of added a little extra spark.

WROONY,
I heard there was an Antione Parris worship service tomorrow night. Attendence is free.

Very good game. 1-1 was a fair result. NW probably won the first half and SV the second. Both teams had decent chances that went begging. I'm not sure who thinks SV plays a particularly physical game - they don't. If anything, their speed is their greatest asset. That and the fact that they don't ever stop playing hard. It was a great win at a tough place to visit.

I figure NW or Irmo v. SV in the finals. Looking forward to it.

Antoine is a 16 year old kid. He doesn't need to be the topic of discussion in this or any other forum other than in the context of his play on the field. Drop it, please.

I was surprised to see NW use a different GK for the shootout. I assume it to be legal (since they did it), but the National Federation rules aren't available on line. I also notice that the state rules allow takers to be anyone on the roster, whether in the game at the end of OT or not.

Can anyone cite the rule that allows substitution of the keeper?

Can a NW supporter explain the decision to use a different keeper for the shootout?

Northwestern did the same thing last year vs. Dutch Fork in the Lake Murray Challenge. They put him in because he is guesses the side and has a quicker reflex.

And WROONEY, were you at the game? If not than I don't understand why you would say Antoine would make them win in regulation. He would help a lot but I feel Northwestern would have been fine in game planning for him.

I couldn't find a rule that specifically addresses the goalkeeper, but if anyone on the roster is eligable to take a kick then it's only logical that anyone on the roster can be the keeper.

I think there were a few people in TN who were hoping SV would lose seeing that this was basically their last challenge until maybe they meet again. I have to say though. It is odd, to me atleast, that they didn't just tie. In TN we do not go to OT for a regular season game. I still wish Farragut would have made it to the semis in the Palmetto Cup.

SV most likely lost another player for the season in last night's game. M. Harding suffered a broken collar bone. He's had a great season, and he will be missed.

Henry...u seem very defensive on this subject...its ok , Northwestern still has a pretty good program....i hope you are able to sleep at night now that your life(Northwestern High School Soccer) has taken such a blow...maybe this loss will bring you and your program back down to earth...no doubt Northwestern is good, but they arent want u make them out to be Henry...Many teams have won a state championship before but they dont "prance" around this message board acting like they are some Greek god...

I found this quote for the Tenn. player interesting. I also hate the PKs and wish games would end in a tie after overtime.

Any thoughts?

Spring Valley will definetly choke in the playoffs, without a doubt mainly because they lost to much. Loosing Antoine Parris is like taking Vick away from the Falcons, not to say he is the team but he "ONLY" scored 2 goals in STATE last year as a freshmen and led them to a CHAMIONSHIP. A disaster is waiting to happen. They did beat NHS but that was by DEFAULT...

Because he is obviously a Greenwood player/supporter and he says Lexington sucks and they have no chance. Who do you think is better Lexington or Greenwood? Should he say Lexington sucks when they obviously are a good team? I thought so.

Thank you for the lesson. I appreciate it. I didn't know my dad was on this message board.

First off you said that you have never said anything negative to anyone. Well, as small of a comment as you made towards scballa, it was negative. Im not defending scballa because i have no clue who he is but in fact, i am calling you on the lie you just made about never saying anything negative. How do you reach down to your keyboard when you sit on such a large thrown of lies??? Also, Northwestern is not what you make them out to be. I have no problem with you because you actually do this site a service by the way that you check it every five minutes. Maybe one day you will be inducted into the SCSOCCER.COM HALL OF FAME...You never know

You never answered my question but I didn't expect you too. I was not making a negative comment towards Greenwood, I just didn't like the fact that scballa says Lexington sucks when they obviously don't. They are a good team.

I do not make Northwestern out to be anything. I am pretty sure they do their own work on the field. I have watched them play, along with several other teams, many times this season and I like what I see from them.

And thank you, I am honored to have your approval on what I do with my spare time. I am pretty sure it is more G rated than what you do!

Well all the losses against South Carolina teams have been against ranked opponents. They beat Dorman 4-1, lost to Northwestern and Spring Valley by one goal. They are a good team still, and are capable of doing well in playoffs.

So because Northwestern has beat them, you want to make it clear that Lexington is good so it makes Northwestern look better. Very well thought out plan Fake Henry. Keep building Northwestern up and one day they might be as tall as the Sears Tower!!!

SV may be a very talented team but is there some reason why they continually make headlines of the infamous nature? I mean what is the deal? What do they do over there all day? I need an explanation.

Shut^&play, the only guess I have is lack of discipline. No disrespect to coach clark because I think he did the right thing in the last situation that came up. Although they are only kids, you have to put some of this on them for decision making, which is basically taught all throughout grade school.

It is soccer. I want to know why good soccer players from white collar backgrounds are continually in trouble with the law/athletic department. On the field, they look fine even amazing at times. Off the field, they make the sport of soccer and it's affluent stereotype look dreadful. I was just asking a question. I'm not making any comments. Nobody HAS to answer, especially a dad from the sideline. Thank you.

There is scant difference between commenting and inviting comments. Either way, the result tends to be a bunch of people saying things about kids that are frequently based on misinformation. If we confine our discussions to what happens on the field, it minimizes the chances of unnecessarily and irresponsibly hurting the kids involved.

Just because we have the freedom to say most anything we want doesn't mean it is the responsible thing to do. One thing that distinguishes this board (usually) from similar forums in NC, Ga and Fl is its civility. In addition to the obviously closer monitoring by the administrators, I'd like to attribute it to the maturity (generally) of the people who post here. Using a little discretion is an important component of that.
