Been on both sides. One undefeated, unscored upon team that never scored over 6 goals in a game. Kids had respect for themselves and appreciated others who loved soccer. Read about BR getting beat 20-0 three straight times six years ago when the soccer program started and realize that (1) teams that beat them were good, and (2) BR was bad. There are times when even the weakest players can score on the weakest teams.
I like the theory that you can work on things other than scoring and shooting when you are up 6+, and I like what Coach Deer at North Augusta did last week against a AA team. He played one less person every time he scored after about 7 goals. Ended up with 12 against a hurt AJ team, but it was admirable. He played BR even throughout, beat us 5-0, and we learned a lot. They were simply a better team and he was a better coach.
My favorite coach taught us that if you keep score you are supposed to end up with more than the other guy. Don't apologize for winning, but do it with class like Andy Robinson and Hank Deer.
