Riverside is solid, and will get more solid. This program sucks up doubters. CESA players everywhere, great coach, tradition, and the worst thing anyone could do for everyone else in the state is question whether or not they should be #1. Let them lose in a regular season game first.

I am a Riverside fan because I have known many players there and think the coach is great. But Riverside did lose in regular season, the first match. I think that is the point of the post.

But Riverside also lost to Byrnes last year.

Some people may be having trouble seeing a shift in tradition. Instead of declaring the demise of Riverside (I doubt THAT), I think we better begin to acknowledge the rise of many programs in SC girls soccer. Byrnes is a different program than several years ago. We can say that about many rising programs without being unfairly negative about others, right?

Wish I was lucky enough to have a program where if you lost to someone that the whole state took notice!! Lay off Riverside....Byrnes sounds like an improved team and I guarantee that Riverside will make noise this season. Hopefully I will be able to play them in the Lady Bearcat Invitational! (Right now I say that, ask me after April 12th).

I agree, Cat. Probably more telling about how Byrnes is getting better than a funeral notice for Riverside.

Riverside and eastside in top five for the last ten years .
Do you think they are going to roll over and play dead.

Florida State did...but no. Terry and the girls are too good to do that. Eastside might drop down a little bit depending on how quickly it takes to get over all those senior losses.

Byrnes vs. Spartanburg tonight at 7:00. Byrnes starting the season off with a bang.

3/3 Byrnes vs Riverside (won 2-1)
3/5 Byrnes vs Spartanburg
3/8 Byrnes vs Mauldin

Any thoughts?

None of the Region 2 teams are going to have it easy... tough group, 5 good teams deep... loses will come from unexpected places and more teams will split

Sounds like Region 4 only a slightly larger gap in between each one. 5 teams ranked this year and the same possibilities for 2008.

Ranked teams are peoples feelings for now, right... I believe Region 2 will fair well over the year... need some kind of ACC Big East Challenge between regions to see who is the best, but I guess that is what the championship proves... time, wins and losses will tell

Last year the Region 2 swept Region 1. If Boiling Springs sneaks in this year as a #4, they get to meet either Fort Mill, Clover, or Northwestern. A tall task, but they'll be ready for it after region play.

Saw Riverside take apart Greenville tonight. Scored two in the first 15, then played until the 2nd half and Greenville scored. THEN, the Riverside machine scored three goals in about three minutes. Daunting. Forgot to mention Austin Fagan (sorry if mispelled) on "best player" forum. She and Sarah Jacobs looked like professionals tonight along with about 15 other Riverside/CESA Premier players. They are formidable.

Riverside did score the first two goals in the first 15 minutes then pulled half of the starters and were playing 7-8 freshmen for the remainder of the first half

Saw the Byrnes game the other night Riverside outshot Byrnes 20-5 with an obvious handball on Byrnes in their box (not called) halfway through the second half Riverside had 75-80% of the play on the ball Byrnes played very tough, athletic and physical

Byrnes must have played a fantastic and effective counter attacking style then to win the game. Kingsley pulled it out last year and then took it again to make sure it wasn't a fluke. Riverside is uber studly so that was quite a feat. Got to coach the North-South game with Terry and I expect him to represent the Upper State in AAA this year if he can out duel Mann and Eastside. Got my money on the Red and Blue!

Not knowing everything about the area, I am not understanding all the questions about Riverside. I'm sure they are a great team but why is there an explanation every time they lose? The info about the handball not being called and the 20 vs 5 shots sounds a lot like excuses. So say the handball had been called and Riverside got the PK. The scored would still have been tied. And aren't there bad calls in every game? There were lots of calls against Byrnes that gave Riverside many "shots". If one looks at all the stats, bet they are all a bit lopsided. Lastly, only the shots that go in count, right? How many times does a team have to beat Riverside before the win is "real"?

Scoreboard is all that matters for the site and HSL. Good stuff by both teams. A lot of us wish we had your success.
