Don't drop the life boats over the side of the ship yet. It is early in the season. They played their archrival in a backyard derby without their coach, and then they met the #2 team in the state. I'm sure DF will be fine come May.

I hope they do well this weekend up at the Fort Mill Tournament. It looks like the tournament has lots of great competition.

Also does anyone know where I can get a copy of their schedule. I would like to see them play some good competition when I return to the states later this month.

My personal opinion based on watching them last night.

Dutch Fork is one of the better teams in the state. What's "wrong" about them is that they're coached by someone who cares about how well the team does in region play and in the playoffs and thus has created a schedule that will help this already very good team get even better by playing top competition (e.g., Viking Cup, Irmo, Fort Mill tournament, etc.) rather than focusing on weekly rankings and playing easier teams early on.

Last year people were amazed that some teams, and even some regions, got swept early in the playoffs. Teams like Dutch Fork made it to the semi-finals despite early season losses. I think the reason is less something being "wrong" with the team and instead something being "right" in terms of schedule and focus.

Well said. It's not how you start, but how you finish that counts most.

Instead of dissing Dutch Fork, we ought to be giving props to the top two teams in the state, Lexington and Wando. At a time when most of the top teams in the state struggle to score more than one goal in a match against Top 15 competition, these two giants put up 4 and 5 goals respectively against very good opponents.

The ability to score a goal against top-notch teams is what determined who gets to Stone Stadium in May. Right now we are looking at a rematch of last year's state 4A state championship and this year's Viking Cup final.

Nothing.

Dutch Fork is 3-3. Their 3 losses have come against teams ranked 2nd, 4th, and 6th in the state. Their 3 wins have all been against top 15 teams.

The Foxes play one of the toughest schedules in the state with 15 games against teams ranked in the top 15. I agree with the previous posts that this challenging competition will pay off as the season continues.

Funny you should mention that about Chapin parents. Check the 80:00 feature this week for an article about that.

I understand the frustration when you're playing a team like Ridge View that is incredibly physical; however, the bottom line for Dutch Fork is beating Wando to get into the state finals. Trying to out-physical Wando is going to get a lot of players taken out of the game for injuries -- because teams don't come much more physical than Wando -- and if you lose a couple of players ***I KNOW*** Wando is going to beat you because they are incredibly deep (remember, 18 returning players.) No one in the state has a better and deeper bench than Wando (in my opinion.)

Instead of trying to out-physical Wando and other opponents, Dutch Fork needs to play to their strengths -- play the ball fast and simply to each other (which they already do very well) and use speed and skill to attack.

Does this mean you don't have to go after 50/50's in a tough manner -- of course not. But I don't think trying to "bang" against bigger and stronger opponents is the way you're going to win. You play to your strengths -- not your opponent's strengths.

Then again, I don't know anything...

Call Paul at Spartanburg High he seems to get the job done
when playing Wondo. He plays with less talent, skill, and players.Everybody knows D.F. has Loads of CUFC players, and lots of talent. Now they need to play high school soccer instead of club ball.

"Everybody knows" that DF is "loaded" with CUFC players, yes. Premier level players and a Championship or five on the team from various age groups over the last couple of years at CUFC and CESA. Most everyone else does play club ball at CUFC at different age groups.Pretty smart bunch of girls. They know their strengths and their weaknesses.

It feels better with a win, yes. But as long as the team learns from losses, they'll be fine come playoff time.
