I wish both would get better of course. Soccer refs should not be able to give a kid a death sentence so easily. As someone said in b-ball two technicals equal getting out of a game. And someone else said 3 in Football, but only one decision for the almighty soccer ref can be the same thing. We all have seen some real physical things let go by, the distrection of the soccer ref is too wide.

I have never seen a Football player ejected except for fighting, never multiple flags. 30 years of experience there, sorry.

Personally as a player, I don't think a cuss word should give you straight red. With only a minute left he should have just got a yellow, and he would have to leave the field anyways. The only way I see it straight red is if he cussed at the ref or threatened his teammate.

I believe the rule book states any foul language is an automatic RED, no discretion is allowed1
Section 8, ART 3 . . . a player, coach or bench personnel shall be disqualified (red card) for:
g. using insulting, offensive or abusive language or gesture;
Had it been incidental then it would be yellow, if they continue a second yellow card...so basically two technical's equal's ejection. Section 8, ART 1 d.

Football coach... Stick to football. I would pull my son off the field myself if he showed the same disrespect for a teamate or official. Soccer is supposed to be different, and I have no problem with enforcing the rules. Don't for a minute think that Alex did not know what he was spewing was against the laws of the game. He made a conscious choice and will have to live with the sanctions. Teach your players to play fair and show respect for players, coaches, and officials. In short teach them to be gentlemen and ladies, not thugs.

Here's a question: Why is he even on the field up 7 - 1 with under 5 minutes to play???

I heard his remark was directed at a teammate. Alex is no Enzo, especially in the class and respect areas.
