Mauldin 3 J L Hanna 2,
What a game, two thrillers in a row for Mauldin, both including overtimes and both on away fields.

There was a strong breeze blowing from end to end, Mauldin played against it in the first half. In the first minute an intended clearance to the side line by Mauldin, was caught by the wind and the ball curled back over the back line for a corner. A beautifully taken corner and a very strong header straight into the net, one goal up for Hanna. For the rest of the half Mauldin had territorial advantage and the Hanna goalie was busy but not severely tested.

At the start of the second half Mauldin, with the wind behind them, worked their way time after time into the Hanna penalty area, one shot hit the top corner of the goal and after about ten minutes into the half the inevitable happened, a Mauldin corner, the ball was bobbled around in the area and freshman Gracie Boswell headed it into the net. Mauldin supporters anticipated that due to their teams dominance a few more goals would be forthcoming, however as the second half neared completion and no more goals had been scored the momentum of the game changed. A throw in near the Mauldin goal line, a Hanna player got the ball, kept good control dribbled around a couple of defenders, the subsequent shot beat Mauldin's very excellent goalie, Curren Smith and with seven minutes to go Mauldin were again playing catch up and struggling. With a minute or so to go a corner for Mauldin, taken short to unmarked Leah Young, who seeming very deliberately took the ball to front edge of the penalty area and then unleashed a shot which could have ended the war in Afghanistan. The ball rose in a screaming trajectory which took it over the advancing goalie's extended hands and then it dipped to skim just under the bar and it bulged in the back of the net. The score was equal 2-2.

The first and second period of overtime were equal or perhaps marginally in Hanna's favor, however in the last minute Gracie Boswell repeated the movements of the last third of her regular season goal against Hanna on the same field. This time around, she got the ball on the sideline edge of the penalty area ran into the area and again sent a looping bending ball well over the Hanna goalie and into the far corner of the net. Mauldin 3 Hanna 2. The kick off and then the final whistle

Both teams will remember this game for a long time. Mauldin finished the game bruised, battered and proud. Will this be repeated yet again in Mondays play-off, is it possible to have three such games in a row?
