Sorry, but machines cannot operate at more than 100%, either. They can run at more than 100% of their rated operating capacity, but that is something different.
And if a player is able to “dig down and find a little more to give and put for[th] effort beyond what others do” well, then, they weren’t really giving 100% prior to that.
