RCates, I couldn't agree more. It seems that this topic comes up every year and always has the word "recruiting" included. This year it was the rain-outs, last year it was the Goalbuster/GFC controversy. These would all be mute points if tryouts were held after the games are over.

Tryouts for U-13 and younger can be held in May after State Cup. Tryouts for U-14 and higher can be held in early July after Regionals. If a team advances to Nationals, tryouts for that particular age group and gender could be postponed until Nationals are over. Note: SC has sent only one team to Nationals, so unless we greatly improve our level of play, this will seldom be an issue.

The argument that State officials do not have time to handle the paperwork just does not wash in this age of computerization. Each team can send in their roster over the internet in a very specific format, so a minimal amount of manual work would be necessary.
