Palmetto Cup boasts another talented field of soccer teams

The 16th Annual Palmetto Cup, one of the tops boys' soccer tournaments in the Southeast, will kick off on Wednesday and crown its champion on Saturday.

The event, which is hosted by Brookland-Cayce High School, features 16 teams, including 12 from the Palmetto State and four out of state teams: Dobyns-Bennett (Kingsport, Tenn); Farragut (Knoxville, Tenn.); Kempsville (Virginia Beach, Va.) and Norman (Okla.) North.

South Carolina teams participating include Airport, Bishop England, Brookland-Cayce, Cardinal Newman, Dutch Fork, Eastside, Emerald, T.L. Hanna, Lexington, North Myrtle Beach, Spring Valley and Wando.

Bishop England was crowned champ in 2002 and was runner-up in '05.

Playing sites will be at The Cage on the campus of Brookland-Cayce and Airport's Eagle Stadium.

Wando plays Kempsville at 4 p.m. Wednesday, while Bishop England plays Brookland-Cayce at 8 p.m. Both games will be played at The Cage.
