I was wondering where/when there might be able to hook up with the SCYSA/USYSA coaching courses. I know there's one at Lander soon, but since I currently have no certification, I'm looking for the E/D courses. Anybody who can help me out (since the SCYSA site doesn't have any currently listed) would be thanked a thousand times. You may either respond on the thread (which may be helpful for others seeking the same information) or send a message; either will do.

Another possibility is the Advanced Regional Course through the NSCAA. There is one shown on the schedule for 24-26 April in Spartanburg. If I remember correctly, the Advanced Regional Certification is the equivelent of a "D" license. http://www.nscaa.com/nrc-list.php#

I understand the need for quality instruction and "such" but why is it that baseball, basketball, and football coaches don't have to possess licenses? Seems to me just another way for money making in the ever growing world of "get mine soccer".

Thanks. I plan on attending the upcoming April NSCAA clinic. Should I also be looking at the E certificate course in July. NSCAA's also running some keeper clinics this summer (which will get my summer travel in). I know the lettered liscences get a little more street cred, but with my goal learning to be the best coach possible, should I focus on one set of credentials or the other? Are there inherent advantages to either?
My line of thinking is the more information/instruction I have, the better. Am I wrong in this thinking?

I'm not going to lie, but I got absolutely nothing out of the USSF "D" course I had to take to get my license. I can see how it could be useful to people with limited exposure to the game, but as a former player, it was basically a waste of two weekends so I could get a pretty piece of paper saying I have a "D" license. There were also some extremist views on coaching that were presented that I didn't agree with based on my experiences as a player.

At least you've received the paper! I took it almost 3 years ago, passed it, won 2 state championships as a coach and still have yet to receive the license. I've called them and emailed them more than once. I feel like I paid them to work hard for them and then not even get what I paid for. I'd called it slavery but it's worse!

I got the D license and didn't think it was that bad. Got the certificate in the mail a couple of months after the fact. It was a little repetitive, and definitely reflected the instructor's personality and personal preferences more than I would have liked.

Seems to me just another way for money making
