Just curious how DOC's in other clubs handle tournaments. I've had kids play in clubs where the final decision to play in made by the coach and parents and I've been in clubs where the DOC tell each team what tournament they will play.

Any thoughts on what systems works best or which one your perfer? I'm not asking for names, just discussion.

DOCs at club 1 controls everything, no parent input except for extra tournaments and even those were picked/pushed on you. He was also young for a DOC and not a strong soccer background.

DOC at club 2 recommends to the team managers, team managers & coaches meet with parents and take team votes. DOC has forgotten more about soccer than all three DOCs at Club 1 combined and is a nationally recognized coach with professional, college, ODP & numerous state championships.

Needless to say we are at Club 2 as Club 1 continues to provide Club 2 and several others around it in business.

Most clubs i was around, the teams chose where they played and the doc may have some influence but they did not dictate where they went b/c the parent's are paying for it.

I have seen club teams go to the same tourneys and dominate but never get better; but they can say we won this and that but they were not strong tourneys; then i think the DOC should step in and talk to the teams/players about participating in other tourneys.

Some clubs have reciprocity agreements in place. As is our case, we have some required tournaments to meet reciprocity agreements then the coach picks the others for the season. I am sure that the DOC weighs in on the 'Coaches' picks, but at least there is some two way dialogue on some of it.
