If you tell me there are a half dozen South Carolina college coaches watching and evaluating my U-17 daughter as she tries out......well then maybe I'll consider that a little "added value". Kids play sports because they find it fun. Eliminate the fun and soon you eliminate the kid.

He said "I just want to see what this is all about, my kid doesn't want to play here. Besides it's free training." That to me is the main reason for the fee. A player there for wrong reasons only muddies the water and could be offered a spot that somebody really wanted, only to turn it down later. I think Hurst has a good idea of applying it to the dues when the player commits to the team. Only time will tell

kcmparent bench K Joined: Sep 2008 Posts: 14	I was surprised to see the new CESA-Spartanburg (formerly USA) charging a $30 tryout fee. That will be a cultural change for the Spartanburg soccer player. Heard that, similar to past years, Carolina FC will not be charging a fee.

Dear Culture Shock, Unless of course CESA - Spartanburg will be playing by different rules than CESA - Greenville I believe you are mistaken! But I am open to education so hit me with the literature that supports your claim. Those trying out in Greenville are eager to know!

Is that information on a website someplace? does CESA Spartanburg have a website? Does CESA-Greenville "refund" the fee? Regarding the culture shock. I don't believe there is a Spartanburg Club (or AYSO) that has a tryout fee. While a try out fee may be common practice for the Greenville player that is not the case for Spartanburg players. From a business perspective - If you are asking them to pay for something that use to be free - it will be a shock to have to pay for it.

scwame throw in S Joined: Apr 2008 Posts: 74	An email from CESA discussing club fees went out to either current members or those registered for tryouts specifically saying: 1. $30.00 paid Tryout Fee credited toward CESA Club Fee.
