What is the tie-breaker for ties within a region. If two teams have identical records, and they split their games against each other.

What is the tie-breaker?

This is what the rule book says,

II. STATE PLAY-OFF
A. 32 teams will qualify for the State Play-offs.
B. Each region will be responsible for determining the method for assigning play-off
positions in the event that teams are tied.
C. It is the region coordinators responsibility to forward this information to the High
School League by 9:00 am on May 6, 2011 for girls and boys.

I usually hear that if teams have identical records in region & split their series with each other, you then have to have a Tie-Break Game at a Neutral field to determine the Region Champion OR it is possible to go by goal differential in the games you played against each other (GF & GA)

In 4A each region determines their tie breaker system independently. No uniform system in place there.

It happened last year to Wilson and Camden. Camden won the #1 seed because of overall goal differential in the region. I believe that's the 2nd tie-breaker after head to head goal differential.

Last year, there was a 4-way tie for 1st place in 4A Region 8 between Beaufort, Fort Dorchester, Summerville and West Ashley.

I think they went through 18 tie-breakers, before finally deciding the seeding with a few games of rock paper scissors (ok, I made up that last part)

I think each region handles things differently. No uniform method for deciding.

We didn’t underestimate them. They were a lot better than we thought.
