1. Assign the MOST qualified and dedicated coaches (from wherever) to the lower age groups, where they can have the greatest impact.
2) Actually EVALUATE kids on an ongoing basis, rather than granting what amounts to a lifetime membership to kids based on their performance as 12-year-olds.
3) Develop an actual list of milestones and metrics for BOTH trainers AND trainees to fulfill as part of the process.
4) Reduce "scrimmage" time; increase off-the-field learning about tactics, fitness, etc.
5) EVALUATE the overall program based on something more relevant than on-the-field results.
NOTE: My only problem with college coaches working with older kids is the inevitable de facto "recruitment" of prospects. Some (by no means all) college coaches find it difficult to draw a line between the dual roles.
