I read in another post about a team's accomplishments. I don't want to sound like I am taking anything away from that team, so I'll ask this in another thread. How do you get nationally ranked? I saw that a SC team beat the "#11 ranked team" in the nation at the "#1 youth soccer tournament" in the nation. So I looked it up. The team in question is, according to this website, ranked 11 in the country. They are also the 3rd ranked team in Eastern Pennsylvania, not the whole state, just the eastern half. They also lost all 3 games at Disney. They have lost 5 of their last 6 games and have a recent record of 22 wins, 14 losses and 6 draws. In Disney, they also lost to the 4th ranked team in Southern Ohio, not the whole state, just the southern half. They also lost to the 4th ranked team in Missouri. How are they 11th in the country?

Furthermore, the SC team mentioned in another post are ranked #1 in SC. However, another SC team has beaten them in the State Cup final the last two years, beaten them in R3PLE league play the last two years and has finished ahead of them in R3PLE standings the last two years. So, who is ranking these teams? and how are they doing it?

So my next question is about ranking the tournament in general. If this tournament is the #1 ranked tournament in the U.S., what are the criteria? I see in the U-16 age group, there are 5 NC teams that played. Charlotte Soccer Academy sent their second team as did CASL. Neither sent their first team. GSA from Georgia sent their second team, but not their first. The 11th ranked team in Florida won thier division. The 29th ranked team in Florida was accepted and competed in the event as did the 34th ranked team in Florida. The U-17 age group looks very much the same with Concorde Fire from GA sending their 2nd team, ranked 27th in GA and 1,097th in the nation, and not their first team.

Is this tournament being ranked by quality of facilities? number of teams accepted? number of states represented by the teams competing? entry fee? It just doesn't seem to be ranked by the elite level of the teams accepted.
