ASA KRYST

South Carolina edged Mercer 1-0 on a rain soaked Sunday night at Stone Stadium that saw the match delayed 1 hour, 20 minutes due to lightning. Fort Mill's Asa Kryst scored the lone goal while a trio of goalkeepers combined for the shutout: Robert Beebe (Pinewood Prep) 45'; Chris Duzan (Brookland-Cayce) 26'; and Marco Velez (Sarasota, FL) 19'.

USC will host Elon in its final exhibition Saturday, August 24. The Gamecocks will kickoff their 36th campaign on Friday, August 30 at home vs. East Tennessee State.

W-SOCCER: South Carolina upsets #7 Duke 1-0

Senior forward Danielle Au's (Suwanee, GA) goal in the 34th minute was the only score of the match as the Gamecocks prevailed 1-0 vs. nationally ranked #7 Duke (1-1-0) at Stone Stadium Sunday night. The win was South Carolina's first home victory vs. a Top 10 opponent since 2004.

Freshman Daija Griffin (Piscataway, NJ) made a piercing run at the Blue Devils' defense to setup Au's goal late in the first half and it proved to be the match winning sequence. Junior goalkeeper Sabrina D'Angelo was outstanding between the pipes and recorded her second shutout of the young season.

USC (2-0-0) will play this weekend in New England at Boston and Northeastern before their annual date with arch-rival Clemson at historic Riggs Field on September 6.
