Northwestern wins 1-0 on pk's.
Outstanding physical game.
Fort Mill keeper had outstanding game.
Trojans played a man down for 35 minutes in the 2nd half after a red card.

Game

In 1st half, Northwestern had slight advantage in play. FM keeper (Will Barbieri) made 2 outstanding plays to keep it 0-0. Early in 2nd half, NHS went down one man on red card, and then proceeded to control most of the play. FM keeper made 2 or 3 more outstanding saves (and the post made one) to keep FM in the game. FM had a couple of good chances, but seemed to settle into a more defensive game as the half went on. In OT, FM came out a little more aggressively, but NHS still had the better chances.

PK's were an awful way to end the game, but that's the rules. NW came out ahead 4-2.

It was a well played, strongly contested, physical, but mostly clean match, and the better team got the win.

Who got the Red Card for NW and why?

I thought that Fort Mill played within their game and played well. If they had a scoring forward, this would be a tough team to beat this year. They have a very good mid field.

I thought NW came out ant overplayed the first half. From what I saw, it was like we were still at Lancaster playing on their size field instead of making use of theirs.

Two games this year that I have seen NW not play in the right frame of game, York and now Fort Mill.

No discredit to Fort Mills game tonite, for I think they are a much talented bunch but I truely thought NW over prepared for this game, or physc'd themselves out before the game.
if anything, NW made the game harder for themselves...

I got it all second hand, but from what I heard NW had the better opportunities and Barbieri played well in goal. Playing a man down didn't slow down the Trojans one bit. They are much more fit than FM.

Scary to think NW was not in the right frame of mind for this one.....only means it could be real trouble for the Yellow Jackets when the teams meet again in FM.

I think the second half was a shot ratio of 18 to 1 but if you can't score, you don't win.

I would imagine NW will play a different game the next time they meet but they still have a great keeper.

Fort Mill really had the game go the way they probably planned, slow down, low scoring... it just doesn't work though if you go to PK's for FM has only one, maybe 2 that have good scoring abilities up front.

Makes all for a better rematch later on.

Arroyo cramped up both legs and had to go out in the first half, then got sick on what they gave him to help the cramping. Wasn't good.

hey, arroyo, i mean silverback #5. i was just wondering how you, i mean arroyo, played. you, i mean your fans have talked pretty good about you on the board. i was just wondering if it makes you feel good about writing about yourself on other posts, i mean if it feels good to see silverback #5 write about you. if yall, i mean NW, wanted a tough schedule, why isnt eastside, the best team in yall's tournament, in your bracket. good luck the rest of the season.

generally, when organizing a tournament, the top teams are cross-bracketed. such bracketing results in more exciting finals matchups, which have an overall positive effect for the tournament's future. as for the third person posting....no comment

Better than reality TV.

Silverback, isn't the way that NW plays usually pack 10 in the box and put one forward up top for the quick attack? This doesn't support the idea that NW doesn't mind a slow game. They promote a slow game the way that they usually play against strong opponents. The past two years that they have met Irmo, they pack it in to keep the score down and try to play for PK's, or they play for that one lapse that the defense makes to allow them to score. They intentionally slow the pace down, and I don't see this as an advantage for FM, just my oppinion though.....
